Mr. T Wants You to Know This About Jesus

Former pro wrestler Mr. T wants everyone to know that they can come to Jesus just as they are.

“It’s not how you come to Jesus; it’s how you leave. Don’t try to say, ‘Well, I just gonna do a couple of things, and I’ma come to God,'” Mr. T said on TBN’s PRAISE. “No, come right now. Empty the pocket. Let it go. You don’t have to do all them long prayers and all that. Just say, ‘Help me, Jesus. Help me, Jesus. Help me, Jesus.’ Just straight to the point, because I remember the thief on the cross. He just said, ‘Lord, remember me.’ Did you see what Jesus did? See, there’s something about that word, ‘remember.'”

Mr. T recalled an earlier period in his life when he worked at a disco to illustrate his point.

“I’m gonna take you back to where I used to be at the disco where I used to work at the door as a bouncer,” he said. “‘Remember’ means that you’re gonna take care of somebody. You’re gonna cover some slack. ‘Man, you glad we going in. Man, you don’t have to pay. Go ahead.’ You remember them. You can take care so you remember people are going to take care of me. That’s my buddy. Take care of me, right?”

Similarly, the thief on the cross simply said, “Lord, remember me.”

“You know, Solomon didn’t pray, ‘Lord, you give me more gold and more dust.’ He said give me wisdom. Give me understanding. All these people, I don’t know how to lead them, just to get help me, I don’t know. So God gave him the wisdom. Just say, ‘Lord, remember me. Lord, help me. Jesus,'” Mr. T concluded.

The former actor was diagnosed with cancer in 1995 but is now cancer-free, previously explaining how God used that time to deepen his faith.

“My faith was tested like Job. That’s the message I try to tell other people, just because you believe in God, serve God, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, people gotta realize, it don’t mean things not gonna happen to you…I believed in God when cancer come to me. Now when I speak, I speak with authority because I’ve been there,” he explained.

For those battling cancer, he has some encouragement.

“So, I can’t tell somebody about hanging in there if I get the shaking in my boots when cancer came,” he said. “Sure, it hit me. Then, I said, ‘No, I got to put my faith in God.’ I said, ‘God, give me the strength to do Your will.’”

“I never said, ‘Oh, Lord, why me?’” Mr. T explained. “Why not me? Who better to give somebody hope? So now, when I run into cancer patients, I can tell them to believe in God. Don’t give up.”
