Mr. T Shares Prayer for Strength: ‘I Called on God’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Mr. T recently shared his prayers for strength in the face of hardship.

“I ask God, ‘Give me strength,’” the actor said during an appearance on TBN’s FAITH, pointing to a time when he spent time with a child through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. “I would just thank God for those opportunities, those times, because I said, ‘God, give me strength because I don’t know who I’m reaching.’”

When Mr. T was diagnosed with cancer, he called it his “Job moment.”

“This is a test of my faith,” he explained. “So, I got into the Bible. I said, ‘This is a test…I can’t teach what I don’t know. I can’t lead where I don’t go…this allows me a testimony.’”

Mr. T has previously spoken about how his cancer diagnosis strengthened his faith, saying, “I called on God. I said, ‘God, give me strength to do your will.’ That’s when it really hit me: What’s really real? My faith in God, that was real, because only God could save me,” via ChurchLeaders.

“My faith was tested like Job,” he said in an interview with Fox News. “That’s the message I try to tell other people, just because you believe in God, serve God, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, people gotta realize, it don’t mean things not gonna happen to you…I believed in God when cancer come to me. Now when I speak, I speak with authority because I’ve been there. Mr. T. been to chemo, Mr. T been to radiation, hair fall out…but he’s back. Now I can give hope when I go to the hospital, see the sick kids with cancer, tell them, don’t quit…I serve God.”

The actor also encouraged people to let go of any hate or bad feelings in their hearts.

“Don’t come to God praying and you’re hating somebody, because it won’t work,” Mr. T said. “You won’t get healed…let all the hate and the envy and the jealousy and the doubt and the worry go. Ask God to come into your heart.”

He continued, “Make me better — that’s a prayer I pray a lot.”

Movieguide® previously reported on how Mr. T stays strong in the face of struggles:

Actor Mr. T is sharing how his faith kept him from giving up when he was diagnosed with cancer.

“I’m diagnosed with cancer, T-cell lymphoma. This is a test of my faith,” he said while appearing on TBN. “So I got into the Bible, and I said, ‘Wow, this is a test.’ I said, ‘I can’t teach what I don’t know. I can’t lead where I don’t go.’ I said, ‘This allows me a testimony.’ And what is a testimony? The first four letters of it is ‘test.’”

He continued, “So, I can’t tell somebody about hanging in there if I get the shaking in my boots when cancer came. Sure, it hit me. Then, I said, ‘No, I got to put my faith in God.’ I said, ‘God, give me the strength to do Your will.’”

“I never said, ‘Oh, Lord, why me?’” Mr. T explained. “Why not me? Who better to give somebody hope? So now, when I run into cancer patients, I can tell them to believe in God. Don’t give up.”
