Nate Bargatze’s new film, THE BREADWINNER, has begun filming, and but it hasn’t been easy for the comedian to shake off his stand-up habits.

“Nate was supposed to work through some of his quirks before we started filming, but uh, he said he didn’t need any help acting,” director Eric Appel quipped sarcastically in an Entertainment Tonight video.

“I mean, overall, it’s basically the same thing as doing standup,” Bargatze said.

The video cut to Bargatze shooting a scene…and whipping out a microphone.

The next several clips saw the comedian holding a variety of objects as a microphone, including a banana and a remote.

“I’ve heard the stories from all the people who made this transition,” Appel said. “You feel naked without that weight in your hand. You just want to hold something. Anything really. But we’re two months into shooting. Come on, man.”

Will Forte, who plays Keegan, stated, “Nate did approach me about sneaking in a mic or two. I said no.”

The video then shows the pair hiding a microphone in a loaf of bread.

“At first, it was only a few just to help him get over the hump,” Forte said. “Don’t tell Eric.”

Many Bargatze’s fans commented on the post, expressing their excitement for the movie.

“He’s working through it…🎤,” Nateland Entertainment, Bargatze’s “evolving entertainment platform,” wrote.

“The lamp laid me out! I can’t wait to see it! Gonna be awesome!” comedian Leah Bonnema commented.

“OMG, I need this to be a weekly series! I need Nate Bargatze in my television!” another fan wrote.

THE BREADWINNER follows a “supermom” who “lands a Shark Tank deal.” The supermom then switches roles with her “breadwinner” husband, who “struggles to adapt as a stay-at-home dad to their three daughters.”

Along with Bargatze, the movie stars Mandy Moore, Will Forte, Colin Jost and Kumail Nanjiani.

Bargatze spoke previously about the difference between stand-up and on-screen work.

“It’s going to be hard to make something and then have to wait to see it,” he told Relevant. “I’m used to immediate reactions. Plus, I don’t know the first thing about making a movie.”

“I’m excited to figure it all out — what works, what’s funny, what needs tweaking. It’s going to be a whole new world, and I can’t wait to learn,” he added.

THE BREADWINNER is set to release on March 13, 2026, in theaters across the country.

Fans will have to wait until then to see if Bargatze finally conquered his stand-up habits.
