Netflix Unveils Plot for CHICKEN RUN Sequel
By Movieguide® Contributor
Netflix just dropped the trailer for CHICKEN RUN: DAWN OF THE NUGGET, the sequel to the 2000 stop-motion animated movie CHICKEN RUN.
“Featuring an all-new voice cast, “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget” follows Ginger (Thandiwe Newton), as she sets up a peaceful sanctuary far from the human world having recently escaped from the evil Tweedy farm. Finally, with the hatching of Molly (Bella Ramsey), Ginger and Rocky (Zachary Levi) seem to have their ‘happily ever after.’ But, unknown to them, outside their peaceful world chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat,” Variety wrote.
The plot picks up shortly after where its predecessor left off. This time, Mrs. Tweedy develops a whole new complex operation. But instead of sneaking away like in the last movie’s plot, these already-freed chickens sneak in.
“Created by Aardman Animation, a company based in Bristol, United Kingdom, the legendary poultry posse would act, along with beloved duo Wallace and Gromit, as the big break the studio needed onto the world stage,” Collider wrote. “It is surprising to learn of the lack of a franchise that CHICKEN RUN spawned, with no sequel or spin-offs in sight, until now. Finally, that is all about to change.”
CHICKEN RUN: DAWN OF THE NUGGET will launch on Netflix on December 15, 2023.
SK Pop reported on Twitter reactions to the announcement of the movie. The responses “have been nothing short of ecstatic. Fans are eager to know how the story unfolds and whether the sequel can live up to the original. The film is scheduled to be released on Netflix, marking a highly anticipated return to the escapades of Ginger and Rocky.”
The original CHICKEN RUN movie “remains the highest-grossing stop motion animation film of all time,” according to Aardman’s website. It earned high praise and a 3+ content rating from Movieguide® and was nominated for Movieguide®’s Best Movie for Families award in 2001.
