It’s official! The wildly popular movie CHICKEN RUN has a sequel in the works.
The news broke at the Annecy “Making of” panel held by the animation festival during the Virtual Cannes Market, according the Hollywood Reporter.
Netflix will distribute the movie globally, with the exception of China.
The streaming giant closed a deal with Pathé, the company that backed the first movie, and StudioCanal, the French group that financed, distributed and sold Aardman projects like SHAUN THE SHEEP (2015), to transfer the rights from the British group to Netflix.
Movieguide® loved the first CHICKEN RUN, stating in the review that, “CHICKEN RUN is a brilliantly crafted, funny movie filled with many moral elements and witty spoofs…Its clever dialogue and exquisite, laborious and beautiful Claymation will amaze the entire family.”
CHICKEN RUN was nominated at the 2001 Movieguide® Awards for Best Movie for Families.
The animated feature grossed $225 million worldwide and still remains the most successful stop-animation movie of all time.
Though a CHICKEN RUN sequel was first reported in 2018, this is the most information about the sequel to be released to date, though no timeframe for the movie has been released.
Sam Fell will direct while Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, who penned the original script will collaborate once more for the sequel.
