New Study Finds ‘Family Time’ is Top Priority for Most Americans
By Movieguide® Contributor
According to a Pew Research Center survey, many Americans view spending time with their family as the most important thing in their lives.
Pew Research Center conducted their analysis using 5,079 adults. Of those adults, 73% said that spending time with their family is the most important priority in their life, regardless of how much time they spend together.
In fact, nine-in-ten adults said they viewed spending time with family as either the most important thing or as very important.
Andy Cerda of the Pew Research Center wrote, “No more than a third of Americans rate any of the other eight items on the survey as among the most important to them. Clear majorities say being physically active (74%), being outdoors and experiencing nature (72%) and being successful in their career (66%) are at least very important to them.”
Cerda continued, “Americans are split on the importance of practicing a religious faith: Half rate it as at least very important to them personally, while 21% say it is somewhat important and around three-in-ten (28%) say it is not important.”
Sadie Robertson Huff, wife and mother of two, frequently shares how much she values time with family.
In an Instagram video, Huff shared a sweet moment with her oldest daughter, Honey.
In the caption, Huff wrote, “Filling up the love tank! Every time I start to tell Honey what I love about her she crosses her arms and gets ready to receive 🙂 it’s so sweet that she starts to say the next thing before I get to it because she knows that’s who she is! She’s heard me speak it before over her and she’s confident to claim it. not being able to pick up Honey has by far been the hardest thing of this postpartum season, but thank God for words and the power and love they can carry!”
Weatherman and television personality Al Roker has also highlighted the importance of family. He recently shared a heartfelt video celebrating his son Nick’s twenty-first birthday.
Roker wrote, “Wow. #andjustlikethat 21 years ago, this young man changed our lives. Nick Roker, I love you and you make me so proud. #happybirthday Nick.”
Movieguide® previously reported on actress Julia Roberts and how she values time with family:
“Here’s the thing: If I’d thought something was good enough, I would have done it,” Roberts shared. “But I also had three kids in the last 18 years.”
“That raises the bar even more because then it’s not only ‘Is this material good?’ It’s also the math equation of my husband’s work schedule and the kids’ school schedule and summer vacation,” the actress explained. “It’s not just, ‘Oh, I think I want to do this.’ I have a sense of great pride in being home with my family and considering myself a homemaker.”
Roberts also said that she feels a “sense of responsibility” to show “my children that I can be creative and that it’s meaningful to me – so meaningful that for periods of time I will choose to focus on that almost more than my family, which has been hard for me to come to terms with.”
