NFL Players Appreciate C.J. Stroud’s Bold Faith: ‘A Lot of Us…Love the Lord’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Houston Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud revealed that other NFL players appreciate his boldness in sharing his faith.

“I’ve had a lot of great people who have reached out, and even guys after games, who just talk about how I mention God and Christ,” Stroud told the media. “I always tell people that it’s not me, it’s him. There’s nothing I can do to ever repay what the Lord has done in my life, and I don’t want to, I just want to act in what he’s calling me to do.”

“I’m not perfect, I make mistakes every day, but at the same time I know the God I serve is a forgiving God…There’s a lot of us out here too that love the Lord, and there is nothing wrong with that,” he continued.

The quarterback has faced backlash for his faith. Last month, NBC edited a clip from Stroud’s post-game interview, removing the part where he talked about his faith.

“I’m not angry about it,” Stroud said of the incident. “I wish that it wasn’t that but, you know, I pray for people, and I think God has called us to love one another through thick and thin, mistakes or success. I just want to show love. We’re not all perfect as people, even myself. I follow the Lord, but I’m not perfect, and I try to just be that light in a dark time.”

“There’s a lot of darkness in this world, he continued. “I think God has called us to really just be a light to one another and just show love. I just pray for people and I don’t have any ill will or any anger to that. I wish that it wasn’t that, but I’m just being myself always. I grew up in the church, and I found Christ in myself, and I’m just trying to get better, and I just want people to feel the love that I felt from God. So I don’t feel any ill will about it. It’s all love.”

Movieguide® recently reported on Stroud gifting a Purple Heart veteran two tickets to the Super Bowl.

Despite being knocked out of the playoffs, Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud gifted a Purple Heart recipient a trip to Super Bowl LVIII.

Coming from a military family has helped shape me into the man I am today – seeing firsthand the sacrifice required. Thanks to ⁦@USAA & ⁦@AFA_Air_Space I’m sending @USMC vet SGT Craig Mazeska and his son to #SuperBowlLVIII in Las Vegas! #SaluteToService,” Stroud posted on X.

“Beyond football, my family is one of the most influential parts of my life, and I especially appreciate the lessons learned from my loved ones who have served in the military,” Stroud commented. “Like some in my family, Marine Corps veteran Sergeant Craig Mazeska selflessly served our country, so I’m honored to join USAA and the Air & Space Forces Association to send Sergeant Mazeska and his son to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, where I look forward to meeting them.”
