Patrick Dempsey Announces ENCHANTED Sequel Details

By Movieguide® Staff

Patrick Dempsey, who starred in the Movieguide® Award-nominated movie ENCHANTED announced details for its upcoming sequel.

“There’s talk that we’ll start shooting that in the spring,” the actor said of DISENCHANTED, which Disney announced during its investor day late last year.

“I just got this script for the second movie, and then I’m starting to go through and get notes together,” Dempsey said.

Dempsey will reprise his role as Robert, and Amy Adams is set to return as Princess Giselle.

According to USA Today, DISENCHANTED will follow the events of the first movie and explore what happens after “happily ever after.”

Movieguide® selected ENCHANTED as one of the Best Movies for Families in 2007 at the 16th Annual Movieguide® Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry.

“My main goal with this movie was to create a true family film, not a children’s film that moms and dads have to suffer through while the kids and grandma have a great time, but a film whose purity of heart could reach across all generations to all people,” ENCHANTED Director Kevin Lima said at the gala.

ENCHANTED Executive Producer Christopher Chase also told Movieguide®, “I want to make movies that make people inspired and come out of the theater happier than when they went in. Opening weekend, we went to theaters and saw people walk out smiling. We were like, this is why we do this!”

According to the Movieguide® review:

Disney’s ENCHANTED turns the fairy tale story inside out in a delightful, positive, morally worthwhile way. Narissa, the evil stepmother of Prince Edward, pushes Giselle down a well after the Prince asks Giselle to marry him. The well leads across the dimensions to New York City, and sweet, kind, joyful Giselle is totally lost in the cruel, uncaring real world of New York. There, she meets a divorce lawyer named Robert and turns his life upside down. Meanwhile, Prince Edward follows Giselle into the well, but the evil stepmother orders her henchman to follow him, find Giselle and kill her.ENCHANTED is a story of real love and real marriage. It contains tremendous musical numbers, flights of fancy, wonderful humor, heart-rending moments, and everything that a great movie should have. The evil stepmother is very scary and there is lots of action violence with funny cartoon moments, so MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for very young children. ENCHANTED may not go over well with the PC crowd. If, however, word of mouth gets out about how good it is, it should become one of the most popular Disney movies of all time.

DISENCHANTED will premiere on Disney+.
