Peacock will raise subscriptions by $3 and introduce a lower-cost option that will allow viewers to stay with the streamer, albeit with a reduced content offering, ahead of the NBA’s debut on the platform.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peacock’s premium plan (ad-supported) will increase to $10.99, while the premium plus plan (ad free) will jump to $13.99 per month. The increase makes Peacock the “most expensive ad-supported streaming tier on the market.”
The new rates go into effect on July 23 for new customers or Aug. 22 for current subscribers.
However, to retain and hopefully gain users, Peacock will introduce a new Peacock Select plan, which will cost $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. THR said it will include current seasons of “NBC and Bravo shows, and some library programming.”
The rising costs come as the NBA begins streaming games on the platform for the 2025-2026 season.
“Peacock will be the most fun and engaging place to stream NBA games for longtime basketball fans and new ones, too,” said Rick Cordella, President of NBC Sports. “We’re bringing the same level of innovation, inspiration and commitment that we’ve brought to so many other huge sports moments and leagues to deliver an intuitive, interactive and reliable streaming experience that the full range of NBA fans will enjoy.”
Former NBA star Grant Hill will join NBC Sports to cover the league.
“I’m incredibly excited to join NBC Sports as part of their NBA coverage,” Hill said in a press release. “The NBA has been such a meaningful part of my life, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue sharing the game I love with fans across the country. To be part of NBC’s return to the NBA — a network with such a rich basketball legacy — and its debut on Peacock is truly an honor. I can’t wait to get started this fall.”
Cordella’s emphasis on sports streaming in the last year has helped Peacock emerge as a leading streaming platform.
“Last year’s Kentucky Derby saw its biggest tune-in since 1989. Sunday Night Football pulled its highest numbers since 2015, and the Paris Olympics were the most-streamed Games in history, up 40% from all prior Summer and Winter Games combined. It drew 67 million total viewers per day across broadcast, cable, and streaming,” Peacock shared in a press release.

But other broadcast are finding success too.
“It’s happening across the board,” Cordella revealed. “And it isn’t just sports. The Thanksgiving Day Parade had its highest rating of all time, too.”
NBC noted that viewers’ “appetite” for live continues to grow, putting “sports in the programming strategy driver’s seat.”
Will Peacock’s increasing sports offerings be enough to keep and gain more subscribers despite the price hike? Only time will tell.
