REDEEMING LOVE to Release in U.S., Canada Through Universal Pictures in 2022

After multiple COVID-19 related delays, Universal Pictures will distribute the new romance movie from producer Roma Downey and director D.J. Caruso, REDEEMING LOVE, in the U.S. and Canada in 2022.
The live-action adaptation of Francine Rivers’ best-selling novel will star Abigail Cowen, Tom Lewis, Logan Marshall Green, Famke Janssen, Nina Dobrev, and Eric Dane.
“Universal Pictures is a perfect home for our film,” writer/director Caruso said. “They have a rich history in enabling films to find their core audience and beyond. I am excited for fans of the book and even for those who haven’t read it, that they will be able to experience Angel’s journey up on the big screen where it belongs. Every actor and crew member felt the significance of the story we were telling, and it enhanced and elevated the film in a profound way.”
Variety reported: “A love story that takes place against the backdrop of the California Gold Rush of 1850, the film follows Angel (Cowen), who was sold into prostitution as a child, who has survived through hatred and self-loathing, until she meets Michael Hosea (Lewis) and discovers there is no brokenness that love can’t heal.”

Author Francine Rivers, known for her works full of biblical themes, recently shared about her visit to the set of the movie adaptation of her 1991 book, “Redeeming Love.”
“Last February, Rick and I traveled to South Africa to see the filming of Redeeming Love. It was so exciting to meet the actors, the director, the crew, and so many other people involved in making the feature film based on my novel. The sets were beyond my dreams, the costumes fantastic, the setting absolutely gorgeous,” Rivers wrote on her website.
Rivers confessed that the constant obstacles are “frustrating, to say the least.”
However, River pointed people to God’s plan for the project and said that she trusts Him with the movie.
“People keep asking when the movie will be released, and I wish I had an answer other than soon. I must remind myself that nothing surprises God, and all things work according to His plan and timing,” Rivers said. “Some may wonder where God has been in this crisis. The truth is, He has remained our strength and comfort. His love is unchanging, passionate, and sacrificial. We can count on Him to bring us through it all. And that’s the message of Redeeming Love. When the movie is released, I hope people flood into theaters to see how God brings beauty from ashes and that faith in Him alone, whose love changes us from the inside out, will sustain us through whatever comes.”
Cindy Bond produces the movie alongside Downey. Bond has attended the Movieguide® Awards multiple times for her work in movies like I CAN ONLY IMAGINE.
