Rob and Chad Lowe on Staying Grounded in Hollywood: ‘The Foundation Is Family’

By Movieguide® Staff

For the first time in their careers, brothers Chad and Rob Lowe will appear on-screen together in the upcoming episode of 9-1-1: LONE STAR.

Chad shared about his experience acting alongside his brother and also how the family has become the Lowes’ foundation while working in Hollywood.

“I realized this is the first time Rob and I will get to be in anything together,” he told Fox News. “First time we’ve ever acted together. For all of these years, many people have asked why we haven’t done it sooner, or when we are going to do it. Rob and I have both wondered ourselves why we’ve never been in anything together.”

“We were able to bring our history – a lifetime of history – to these scenes and these moments that we shared on screen,” he continued. “There were so much unspoken [words] going on, and yet there’s the dialogue that we’re speaking. And there’s also this other life that we had, life experiences that we were able to bring. I think it’s just evident and it makes [the scenes] that much richer.”

Chad said that he and other family members working in the industry work to stay grounded by putting family above their careers.

“I think it’s always about family first. All the other stuff is on top of family. The foundation is family,” he said. “The foundation is the love that we share for one another and each other. The most important thing is that bond. Everything else grows from that bond of family. That’s always been the most important thing to us. And I think it helps to have kids of my own. It’s very humbling and it keeps me grounded. There’s nothing more grounding than having your kids call you out.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Rob’s focus on family:

Even though Lowe has had starring roles in hit movies and beloved TV shows, he said that his most rewarding role is that of a husband to his wife of 30 years, Sheryl, and a father to his two sons: Matthew, a lawyer, and John, a TV writer.

“I’ve never been happier, personally or professionally [and] there’s not a day that goes by where I’m not thankful about it all,” Lowe gushed. “I have gratitude and profound humility for the gifts that I’ve been given, and worked for, in this world.”
