Sadie Robertson Huff Deleted Social Media to Fight Anxiety

While answering fan questions on an episode of her podcast, Sadie Robertson Huff explained how she addresses her anxiety head-on.

“I’ve deleted social media. I have talked to a counselor. I have talked to two mentors. I have talked to [her husband Christian],” she said. “I do not get passive with anxiety. I do not get passive with struggling with that. I’m like, nope. I have a sound mind. I am not going to sit here and try to go about my life while I’m being super anxious and overwhelmed by stress.”

“Like I said, I gotta show up, like, I gotta host this podcast, I gotta be a good wife, I gotta be a good mom. And so, like, I’m not just gonna sit here and let my mind be riddled with anxiety,” Huff continued. “I gotta speak truth over myself. I gotta get out whatever is making me anxious. I gotta talk to someone. Because I’m just not gonna do it. And so, I think you gotta get serious about it too, don’t just be like, ‘Oh, I have so much anxiety,’ like work through it.”

Huff’s struggle with anxiety has been a lifelong battle but one that she has become better at fighting as she’s grown older. Living in the public eye doesn’t help; however, she chooses to speak life over herself rather than dwell in this crippling fear.

“…I think a lot of times we can fall in the excuse of, ‘Oh, I’m just an anxious person’ …but for me, I knew it was beyond that. It was fear gripping my life,” she told ET of her anxiety.

However, she has since learned that anxiety “is actually not who God created me to be.”

“If that is my identity and I claim that as my identity, then I’m always going to be anxious…identifying with your weakness and letting it become who you are is such a big problem because it keeps you from all that God has for you,” she said on her podcast.

“God’s word says that He didn’t give us a spirit of fear BUT one of power, love and a sound mind! It also says He gives PEACE that surpasses ALL understanding,” she added.

Her decision to speak life over herself allows Huff to be a light to the world and an encouragement to those struggling in a similar way.

Huff often speaks about her battles with anxiety and how she works to overcome them.

“I went through postpartum anxiety, which I didn’t really see coming because I had been living free of anxiety for maybe like two years at that point, and then it just slapped me in the face,” she said in an episode of her podcast. “I wanted to do this [podcast] again even before I had the baby to remind me of the truth that I found and the ways out of fear that I found.”

Huff continued, “This is not something new that people are anxious or people worry, I mean Jesus addressed it…over and over again. Old Testament, New Testament, so it’s not something new. God has an abundant life for us, he has a life and he tells us ‘do not fear for I am with you’. And you know, when we are followers of Jesus, he tells us, he’s like, I’m going, and I’m leaving the spirit with you. We have the spirit of God in us, so we have we should be walking differently.”
