Sadie Robertson Huff Dishes on the Wholesome Reason for DUCK DYNASTY Success
By Movieguide® Contributor
DUCK DYNASTY’s Sadie Robertson Huff is opening up about how her family stayed true to themselves, even after the show made them stars.
Huff explained the beginnings of DUCK DYNASTY, giving her mother credit for coming up with the idea to turn the promotional videos the family made to sell with their duck calls into a reality TV show.
“It was the best thing for the business, but more than that, it was a godly family on TV, with good morals and values and having fun and being silly,” she said of DUCK DYNASTY’s success. “People just love the show.”
The popularity of the show meant that sometimes the show’s producers wanted more drama than the Robertson family was comfortable with providing. Huff recalled a day of shooting where she was asked to tell her grandfather, Phil Robertson, “No,” after he asked her to pick up sticks in the yard. She refused, as she would never disrespect her grandfather like that.
“I remember our parents pulling us aside and saying, ‘You never have to do something because they ask you to. Be true to who you are,’” she said of that moment. “And so we were true to who we were, and actually, people loved it, because people were like, ‘Wow, respectful kids on TV! So cool to see them respect their grandpa!’ And so they thought this was not going to work, but that’s the very thing that worked.”
Huff described what it was like for her family to become famous, saying it was comforting to experience it alongside family members.
“I think when a lot of people get famous, it’s just them, and it feels so isolating, and I’m so grateful I got to go into fame with my entire family,” she said.
DUCK DYNASTY ran for 11 seasons, going off the air in 2017, but fans are still holding out hope for more episodes.
Willie Robertson told TV Insider that the family is “looking into some different TV ideas,” but a revival of DUCK DYNASTY is “really not gonna happen.”
“Sadly, everyone’s gotten older, and we’re all in different places now,” he explained. “Our cast has expanded drastically. I have seven grandkids now, so we’ve got some ideas.”
Movieguide® previously reported on the Robertsons’ potential return to TV:
Sadie Robertson Huff and her mom, Korie Robertson, recently teased their potential return to the world of reality TV.
“So, we’re not necessarily doing a show, but we’re not necessarily not, and by that, I mean we’re doing a sizzle,” Huff shared.
Robertson explained that a sizzle is a collection of clips that gets shopped around to different networks, showing what a potential show would look like.
While mother and daughter seem excited by this new project, both were quick to add that they are not completely reliant on the idea of another show.
“I think, for our family, we’re pretty used to just holding things loosely,” Robertson said. “If it’s for you, if it’s going to be good for the kingdom, if it’s good for our family, then let it be. If not, then it’s fine…we will step through that door if you open it, but if you don’t want this for our family, then close the door.”
Huff and her family may not be coming back to the world of television, but they have plenty to keep them busy in the meantime.
Her popular “WHOA That’s Good” podcast won K-Love’s Podcast Impact Award at this year’s K-Love Awards ceremony.
“That is the goal of the podcast – that it would impact us to grow in our relationship with God and grow in wisdom!” she wrote on Instagram. “I’m beyond grateful to do what I do and can’t wait for all of the conversations to come!”
