Savannah Chrisley Says ‘God Meant for Me to Be a Mom’ as She Raises Siblings
By Movieguide® Contributor
After Savannah Chrisley became the legal guardian of her two younger siblings in November 2022, she has come to view motherhood in a different light as she experiences the highs and lows of the job.
“I always used to say I will have however many kids God will allow. That was my viewpoint,” Chrisley told “The Adversity Advantage” podcast, per PEOPLE. “I don’t know; I think when you’re young, you think kids are easy, right? No.”
She’s raising “her brother Grayson, 17, and her niece Chloe, 10, while her parents Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley serve their respective prison sentences.”
“After having Chloe and Grayson, if anything, it slowed my timeline down on things. But I always said God meant for me to be a mom. If I don’t do anything right with my life, that’s going to be the one thing that I do right,” she continued.
Having taken care of her siblings for over a year, Chrisley now understands that there’s a lot more to parenting than she realized.
“It’s definitely opened my eyes to how important bringing a child into this world is and how when we’re gone, what we leave behind are children,” she said. “So how we raise them and how we love them and guide them, it matters.”
“I think, if anything, it’s just made me realize that when that time does come for me to have kids, every little decision matters and impacts your child,” Chrisley added.
While changing roles from big sister to legal guardian has been difficult, Chrisley knows it’s worth it as she fights to give her siblings a stable life to grow up in.
“Being a bonus parent is TOUGH… no one could ever add up to their parents. But these kiddos have shown me so much love, patience, grace, understanding and appreciation!” Chrisley said last July. “Helping to raise these two kiddos is the hardest but most rewarding job I will ever have.”
“I always said, ‘God meant for me to be a mama!’ …little did I know, the journey would start a little sooner than expected! But luckily, I have had THE MOST AMAZING mama in the world to learn from! Because of her I can do this,” she added.

Chrisley also spoke about what it has been like dealing with her grief of being separated from her parents, Todd and Julie, who are currently in prison for financial crimes.
“I miss Mom and Dad so much, but I’m surrounded by all these people that love and care about us, and in a time where you could be very alone, I’m not,” she said. “Instead of being in this state of sadness, [I am] in this state of gratitude for all the love and people that are here.”
Chrisley has previously spoken about the importance of having a support system, especially during this difficult time.
“To see the people around me that have loved us and cared about us, it made me realize that family isn’t just blood,” she explained to E! Online. “You can have a family that you weren’t born into. And for me, those are friends. Those are friends who show up like family show up. And for that, I’m so grateful.”
Chrisley has also been leaning on her faith.
