Savannah Guthrie Tells Children: ‘God Is Here for You’
By Movieguide® Contributor
TODAY host Savannah Guthrie is sharing the important message she hopes kids take away from her book, “Mostly What God Does Is Love You.”
“Our relation[ship] with God is so personal. And the way I know Him is probably different than the way you know Him,” Guthrie said while appearing on the THAT SOUNDS FUN podcast. “So God, I think — I write a lot about the — in the grown-up book about [how] God speaks our language and knows how to reach us.”
“The grown-up book” refers to “Mostly What God Does,” a book for adults Guthrie wrote about her own connection with faith.
She continued, “I don’t mean He speaks our language like, He speaks English. I mean he speaks Annie [podcast host]. And He speaks Savannah. So, when I say…you know Him in your mind, it’s this relationship and friendship that you hold in your heart and you don’t know why. You can’t see Him. You can’t touch Him. But you feel Him and you know Him.”
“I hope that the character of God is revealed in the sense of, He is big and you are small, but you’re never too small for Him. He is dependable. He is faithful. He is here for you,” the TODAY host concluded. “There is a God we can know.”
A synopsis of “Mostly What God Does Is Love You” reads, “This beautifully illustrated picture book showcases the wonders of nature, the beauty of God’s creation, and most importantly, how very loved you are by God. ‘Mostly What God Does is Love You’ reminds children (and adults) of God’s great love for them, how very cherished they are by the creator of the universe, and how in turn, they can share that same love by being kind and compassionate to others.”

Guthrie spoke about publishing “Mostly What God Does” to TODAY, saying her faith is “what makes me tick. It’s what makes me joyful. It’s what helps me navigate the world and stresses and disappointments and fears.”
“I’m not writing this book from some mountaintop where I’ve received some wisdom, and now I’m imparting it to the world,” she continued. “No, I’m still down here, struggling. Still down here, disappointing myself. I’m still down here, needing faith, needing grace, needing mercy, needing love. That’s why I wrote the book — because I’m the person that needs to read it. And so I thought, if I do, then maybe others do, too.”
