Selena Gomez Surprises Fan Battling Stage 4 Cancer

By Movieguide® Contributor

Selena Gomez took the time to make the dreams of one fan battling stage 4 soft tissue cancer come true.

On Jan. 21, Timothy Bobrovitsky shared a TikTok video asking his followers to help make “my dreams come true.”

Per GOOD MORNING AMERICA, “In September 2022, Bobrovitsky told GOOD MORNING AMERICA that he was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that involves soft tissue such as muscle or ligaments and can be found on the arm, leg, foot, or near joint spaces. According to the National Institute of Health, the age-adjusted incidence is 1.42/1,000,000 in adults. Bobrovitsky said he has faced his diagnosis with positivity.”

Since he was diagnosed, Bobrovitsky has hoped to meet Gomez because she’s inspired him throughout his life and as he battles cancer.

“The one Selena concert I went to was like the biggest deal to me,” Bobrovitsky told GMA. “I used to sit in my room and watch old YouTube videos of Selena meeting her fans, and I would sit there and cry.”

One month later, his dream came true.

“It was completely unexpected the way I met her,” Bobrovitsky expressed. “It felt like Selena was meeting me as a friend, you know, like she wanted to see me and connect with me more than just a face in a video.”

It was his birthday, so Gomez gave him a cake and balloons.

“We exchanged gift baskets and she told me she had another surprise and led me over to a table. It turns out all of her staff, including the heads of Rare Beauty and Interscope were there with balloons and a cake to sing me ‘Happy Birthday,'” he said.

Bobrovitsky shared several photos of his meet and greet with Gomez. He captioned the post, “Highlights from my day with Selena and the Rare Beauty Team 🤍”

Movieguide® previously reported on how actor Dwayne Johnson also surprised a young fan battling cancer:

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson surprised a young fan battling cancer for the third time.

“This is such a special day,” Johnson said in an Instagram post. “I have been following Luna for a couple of years now, she is my biggest fan, I’m so honored, I am so honored and grateful she is my biggest fan.  I’m her biggest fan too as well, we have never met. Luna is so special, she’s one of the strongest girls on the planet.”

Luna Perrone, 12, has battled Ewing’s sarcoma off and on since she was 9.  This is now her third time fighting cancer.

“She’s been battling cancer for a few years now [and] unfortunately just received some news that the cancer has spread, and she has no idea I’m going to surprise her,” Johnson’s post continued. “I told her family ‘Tell Luna I’m setting up a lunch for you guys at my favorite hotel, and I’m sorry I can’t be there.’ So I’m going to take her food that she ordered, I’m going to be a waiter, not a good one I’m sure, and I’m going to take her food out and we’re going to surprise her for the first time.”
