Shirley Boone, the wife of music icon and actor Pat Boone passed away early Friday. According to People magazine, Shirley was surrounded by her husband of 65 years, and her four daughters who were singing hymns to her as she passed. Pat Boone told People, “we lived a wonderful, blessed life together for 65 years. I’ve parted with my better half for a little while… but we don’t die, we just move on to another place, and today was moving day. She’s changed her address is all and moved to a different mansion that I expect to join her in one day.” The couple had been together since they were 16-years-old. Shirley Boone was the daughter of country music artists Red Foley and Judy Martin. While Pat became the second-biggest musical artist in the 50’s, only behind Elvis Presley, Shirley was happy to raise their four daughters. Being a wife and mother wasn’t’ all she did, however, Shirley also was a recording artist, a best-selling author, and a humanitarian who helped raised millions of dollars to aid the hungry in Cambodia, an effort that morphed into the non-profit Mercy Corp. Pat Boone was a long-time friend of Dr. Ted Baehr, and supporter of Movieguide®’s ministry in Hollywood. He attended many, many Movieguide® Award Gala’s over the years, as well as hosting the show. Pat also co-wrote the book THE CULTURE-WISE FAMILY with Ted Baehr. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Boone family who has blessed so many millions across the world with their hearts of love, generous spirit and uncompromising faith.
