Great American PureFlix will take viewers inside Jesus’ final night Palm Sunday by premiering THE LAST SUPPER.
“THE LAST SUPPER offers a remarkably authentic telling of the final days of Jesus,” said Bill Abbott, President & CEO of Great American Media. “It’s a beautiful, immersive film that invites viewers to reflect on the meaning of Easter in a deeply personal way.”
According to the Movieguide® review, “THE LAST SUPPER tells the story of Jesus Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection. Peter introduces the story, which begins with Jesus Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem. Jesus removes the money lenders from the Temple and tells Caiaphas, the High Priest that God is His father. Caiaphas decides Jesus must die and focuses on persuading Judas to betray Jesus. As the betrayal of Judas reaches its climactic crescendo, Jesus washes the feet of the Apostles before the Passover supper. The events of the Last Supper and its aftermath unfold dramatically.”
While taking some creative license, the main Gospel story shines through.
Contemporary Christian musician Chris Tomlin executive produced the movie that stars Jaime Ward as Jesus, James Faulkner as Caiaphas and Robert Knepper as Judas.
“It’s so powerfully told, right from the scripture,” Chris Tomlin, the executive producer, told Movieguide®. “This is not Hollywood at all. It is really ministry.”
Tomlin said watching the biblical story come to life on the screen really helped him understand some of the disciples’ motivations.
“With characters like Peter and Judas, I think as people watch this, they’re going to ask why,” Tomlin told Movieguide®. “When I watched it, I was reminded how like Peter and unfortunately Judas, [these characteristics are in] all of us. Here’s Peter, this incredible man of faith who will do whatever to fight for Jesus, and then an hour later, he’s saying [he doesn’t] know who Jesus is.”
“You’re like, man, how many times in my life, how many times has my heart been this way? How many times have my actions been this way? And then when you see Jesus restoring Peter, man, I just think people will relate in such a powerful way because it’s the human condition,” Tomlin said.
