Warning! STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW Introduces Lesbian Parents
By Movieguide® Contributor
After the first two episodes of the newest Star Wars series established an enjoyable plot, the writers introduced lesbian parents to spoil the fun.
STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW is an enjoyable series that harkens back to the shows and movies created during the time when the first STAR WARS movies were released as it follows the adventures of four young protagonists. Unfortunately, Disney decided to spoil this fun in the third episode when they introduced the characters’ parents; one of the kids is raised by two moms.
While this introduction does not completely ruin the show as the parents are not main characters, it does tarnish a story that had a strong start, free from many of Disney’s pitfalls. A portion of Movieguide®’s review of the first two episodes reads:
The two-part premiere for STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW is a surprisingly enjoyable time. The dialogue feels genuine, the writing is decent, and the teenage actors are all around solid. The characters embody the virtues of friendship and loyalty. Moreover, the show perfectly captures the “1980’s teen adventure” atmosphere seen in THE GOONIES. However, there are sequences of peril and moderate physical violence. MOVIEGUIDE® recommends this series for older children and teenagers.

This isn’t the first time Disney has forced the LGBTQ+ ideology into the STAR WARS universe. Fans received Disney’s THE ACOLYTE extremely negatively when it was released in June, largely because of the excessive inclusion of this ideology. The show featured the first non-binary cast member on a STAR WARS project along with gay characters prominently featured.
THE ACOLYTE creator Leslye Headland explained that her goal was to make something “my parents would have allowed me to see when I was younger as a queer person, that I would have been able to understand as a queer person.”
STAR WARS fans, however, did not allow Disney to shoehorn its ideologies into their beloved universe, and the show has already been canceled. Hopefully, Disney learns their lessons from the reception of including LGBTQ+ ideology in the Star Wars universe and stops trying to force their perverse beliefs onto audiences.
