Steve Harvey Becomes Dad to Those Who Don’t Have One: ‘God Sent You Here’

Steve Harvey is being a father to the fatherless.

In a special documentary, the FAMILY FEUD host takes young boys to a camp and trains them to be confident and positive young men.

The documentary, titled STEVE HARVEY’S CAMP: BUILDING MEN, INSPIRING DREAMS — A DR. PHIL MERIT TV SPECIAL, is all about being a dad to those who don’t have one.

“Every summer, Steve Harvey becomes a loving father figure to 250 young men without fathers of their own,” a synopsis reads. “It’s a week the boys will never forget, filled with love, life lessons, and celebrity guests. It all happens on Harvey’s private ranch, hidden away in the hills of rural Georgia.”

Harvey does this “in an effort to inspire them to become positive leaders in their communities and families,” PEOPLE reported.

“For over 15 years, we have hosted the camp and provided father figures to thousands of young men, which would not be possible without volunteers who donate their time and partners who support our mission,” he said. “Through mentorship, these young men have received the tools to propel them both professionally and emotionally.”

A clip from the documentary shows the young men undergoing physical training with military officers.

“Well, it has begun,” Harvey tells the cameras. “You can already tell everybody’s not pleased with the requirements, but that’s the first thing we start with, is requirement. First thing we teach ’em is discipline. You got to be disciplined. You have to master discipline if you want to be successful… Listen, it’s going to be a little tough sometime, but you got it in you. God sent you here. We’re going to take care of you, okay?”

“On National Giving Day, Tuesday, Dec. 3, @drphil PRIMETIME will air an episode highlighting the camp and the Steve Harvey Majorie Foundation. The entire STEVE HARVEY’S CAMP special will air on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 9/8 p.m. CT,” Harvey shared on Instagram.

Earlier this year, Harvey joined Dr. Phil’s Merit Street Media as an “equity partner.”

He “is expected to co-executive produce a special that focuses on a mentoring program for young men that he runs in Georgia. The project will feature both Harvey and McGraw and is going to focus on inspiring young viewers,” TV Insider added.
