‘Such A Battle’: Why Carrie Underwood Keeps Kids Off Technology
By Movieguide® Contributor
Carrie Underwood is keeping her kids away from technology for “as long as possible.”
“It’s such a battle,” the country star said during an appearance on the TODAY show. “Even television—I’ve noticed that if they watch too much TV, they have an attitude shift, and I’m like, ‘Why are you moody? What are you doing?’”
Underwood admitted that they have “learned a lot from different television programs” but added that it’s still “a struggle” to keep them away from screens.
“[I’m keeping my kids off of phones for] as long as possible,” she went on. “There’s been a whole grassroots initiative within their school—a bunch of parents getting together and discussing how we can keep our kids away from technology, especially social media.”
Underwood frequently talks about her experiences as a mother, emphasizing that, despite her superstar status, she’s still just a regular mom.
Like most moms, Underwood has said her day doesn’t truly get started until the kids are off to school.
“The second they leave it’s like, gotta vacuum, make their beds and check their rooms to make sure there are no wet towels on the floor, stuff like that,” she explained. “Clean our room, go workout, garden…I’m always cooking something or canning something. I kind of live in the kitchen, making bread or something.”
The singer concluded, “And then, before you know it, they come home, and we make dinner. We have so many meals together as a family.”
Underwood’s family—which includes husband Mike Fisher and sons Isaiah and Jacob—got closer during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
“I’m very lucky,” she said in a 2020 interview. “I do have two incredible boys…We live on a farm, and I kind of got to get back to some of my roots by not being on stage for a minute, and I got to be outside so much and work in the garden and just be a mom and be a wife…It’s the most I’ve been still in over 15 years.”
