This Show Dominated Fourth of July Week Streaming…Again

By Movieguide® Contributor

After Season 9 of SUITS hit Netflix on July 1, it’s not surprising that the show was, once again, the most streamed show for the week of July 4, its second year earning that title.

Per Collider, “Following the recent reveal of the Nielsen Streaming Ratings for the week of July 3, it has been officially confirmed that SUITS was the most streamed show of Independence Day week, sitting just behind the newest BEVERLY HILLS COP addition, AXEL F, in the total figures. Across both Netflix and Peacock, the show returned over $1.49 billion in minutes streamed for the week, with the entire top 10 remarkably each surpassing the $1 billion mark. This is the first time this has happened in Nielsen’s recorded history, with SUITS playing a major part in the week of streaming data collectors will likely never forget.”

Movieguide® reported on the debut of SUITS Season 9 on Netflix:

A major factor in SUIT’s sudden resurgence was that Netflix picked up the show and streamed Seasons 1 through 8.

However, without Season 9, viewers missed out on the romance between Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Donna Paulson (Sarah Rafferty). The final episode of Season 8 leaves viewers on an emotional cliffhanger because the pair finally seem to become official.

Fans will finally get the resolution they want when Season 9 debuts on Netflix on July 1.

Deadline reported, “The ninth and final season of SUITS centers on an evolved firm, Zane Specter Litt Wheeler Williams, facing uncertainty and change yet again after Robert Zane (Wendell Pierce) took the fall with the Bar Association to save Harvey. After his sacrifice, Samantha Wheeler (Katherine Heigl) is left reeling from the loss of her mentor, and while trying to console her, Harvey realizes that he doesn’t want to lose the most important person to him: Donna.”

The SUITS franchise hopes to maintain its massive fan interest as the spinoff, SUITS: L.A., gets ready to start filming in Los Angeles.

“His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved,” a synopsis of the new show reads.

Another reason SUITS viewing could be at an all-time high in the streaming world is because of stars Sarah Rafferty’s and Patrick J. Adams’ new podcast, “Sidebar: A Suits Watch Podcast.”

Although the podcast hasn’t aired yet, fans are excited.
