SUITS Season 9 to Debut on Netflix This Summer

SUITS Season 9 to Debut on Netflix This Summer

By Movieguide® Contributor

In 2023, the hit legal TV series SUITS garnered nearly 60 billion viewing minutes.

Movieguide® reported:

Despite first airing in 2011, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Michael Ross (Patrick J. Adams) topped 2023’s streaming charts as SUITS became the number one TV show streamed with the most minutes watched.

According to Nielsen, “While the writers’ strike had an impact on new content this year, the popularity of SUITS was undeniable, landing in the top spot of Nielsen’s top 10 list for a record 12 straight weeks—longer than Netflix originals OZARK (11 weeks), YOU (8 weeks) and STRANGER THINGS (8 weeks). During its 12-week run at the top, audiences watched more than 36.8 billion minutes of the legal dramedy.”

Overall, SUITS totaled 57.7 billion minutes streamed, which means it finished with more minutes streamed than THE OFFICE did in 2020 (57.13 billion minutes).

A major factor in SUIT’s sudden resurgence was that Netflix picked up the show and streamed Seasons 1 through 8.

However, without Season 9, viewers missed out on the romance between Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Donna Paulson (Sarah Rafferty). The final episode of Season 8 leaves viewers on an emotional cliffhanger because the pair finally seem to become official.

Fans will finally get the resolution they want when Season 9 debuts on Netflix on July 1.

Deadline reported, “The ninth and final season of SUITS centers on an evolved firm, Zane Specter Litt Wheeler Williams, facing uncertainty and change yet again after Robert Zane (Wendell Pierce) took the fall with the Bar Association to save Harvey. After his sacrifice, Samantha Wheeler (Katherine Heigl) is left reeling from the loss of her mentor, and while trying to console her, Harvey realizes that he doesn’t want to lose the most important person to him: Donna.”

Netflix adds, “Season 9 follows the legendary lawyer and COO as they balance their relationship with work and fight to salvage the firm’s tarnished reputation alongside their partners, Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman), Alex Williams (Hill), Katrina Bennett (Schull), and Samantha. As the season progresses, the core characters’ personal lives are explored more deeply than ever before, setting up the series conclusion, in which everyone will finally be forced to decide exactly who they are and what kind of lawyers they want to be.”

The news broke during the ATX TV Festival which featured former USA Network president Jeff Wachtel and cast members Patrick J. Adams, Sarah Rafferty, Dulé Hill, Amanda Schull and Abigail Spencer.

Movieguide® previously reported on the upcoming SUITS spin-off, SUITS: LA:

Since the announcement of the SUITS spinoff SUITS L.A., fans have eagerly waited to hear what they can expect from the new show. As more information emerges, it looks like the series will be much different from the original.

Many fans wondered if the spinoff would see any of the original cast members return. That likely will not be the case as Stephen Amell was just announced as the show’s star.

Per Deadline, “ARROW star Stephen Amell is set as the lead in NBC drama pilot SUITS L.A., a new extension of the SUITS universe from Aaron Korsh, creator and writer of the original series. Production is scheduled to start in late March in Vancouver.”

When the news of Amell’s new role was released, he posted a witty comment on Instagram.

“For the record, I’m a 42 regular,” the star wrote.
