THE CHOSEN Cast Spill on Season 5 and Bringing the Bible to Life

THE CHOSEN cast is opening up about Season 5 and what it’s like to act in one of the most impactful Biblical shows of all time.

“Playing Jesus requires a lot of deep thought and consideration given who He was and what He means to so many people around the world, including myself as a Christian, and I think there’s a certain reverence that I have for the character,” Jonathan Roumie said. “There’s an endless supply of complexity with Jesus, I mean…He’s the most difficult character I will ever play. I think [for] any actor, He’s the most difficult character just to play just because of who He was, and so I don’t take any of it lightly, and I strive to honor Him in my portrayal.”

Roumie promises Season 5 will show Jesus to THE CHOSEN fans in a way they’ve never seen before.

It shows “the world, colors and emotions of Jesus that nobody’s really tried to capture on film before,” he explained. “Nobody’s gone to the depths of the interpersonal relationships between Christ and the Pharisees, the authorities, the disciples. Nobody’s explored this in the way that we’re exploring it, and so as the human side of Him, we’re going to see things that we’ve never seen before, and I’m really proud of that because it’s, I think, giving a much more complete and relatable portrait of who Jesus as the man could have been.”

Paras Patel’s character, Matthew, is portrayed as being on the autism spectrum. The actor feels his role reaches an important group of people who enjoy seeing a TV character they can relate to.

“It actually fuels me to keep going and dig deeper into Matthew’s journey and incorporate that kind of inclusivity into the role, because at the end of the day, everyone wants to see a version of themselves or feel like they can relate and I think that’s what makes Matthew pop for most of the people,” he told Movieguide®. “They really see themselves. So it’s really been kind of an ambassador for the neurodivergent community, and it’s kind of been something that’s been special in my heart as I go on to, you know, look for more endeavors in that space to kind of bring awareness and inclusivity.”

Noah James, who plays Andrew, said he’s loved his time working on the Teddy Bear Award®-winning show.

“Our time on THE CHOSEN, we have the best family, the best, you know, cast, crew, and I feel so comfortable on sets now because…it feels like we live here for months at a time that when I go on other shows I just feel more at ease, I feel more able to do the work and meet people where they are, and I really thank the chosen for that,” James said.

Shahar Isaac, who plays Peter, added THE CHOSEN makes his job as an actor simple because of the show’s writing.

“The one thing that leads this production is the writing,” said Isaac. “That’s the one…thing that is leading it. So…you don’t have to do much heavy lifting, yeah, when the writing is so good.”

Amazon Prime Video just got exclusive streaming rights to THE CHOSEN for existing and future seasons. Season 5 releases in theaters next month, starting with Episodes 1 and 2 on March 28. The whole season will be available on Prime Video in June.
