How THE CHOSEN Star Hopes New Season Impacts Fans’ Faith

By Movieguide® Contributor

As fans anticipate Season 5 of THE CHOSEN, cast members reflect on the lessons the show has taught them.

This season is rumored to be an emotional one as it depicts Jesus’s final days on earth. Actor Jonathan Roumie, who portrays Jesus, shared how acting in the show has shifted his perspective on the story found in the Gospels.

“Ultimately, when we get to the part where there is the betrayal by Judas — the sorrow, the sadness and the devastation [I felt] for Judas…that was something that had more empathy than I was ready for,” he explained.

Roumie also suffered heart palpitations during the filming of The Last Supper, which he said went away with prayer. “This season I’ve had to let go of so much, and it’s still a struggle,” he said.

The new season is slated to arrive in theaters on March 27, 2025. “Fans can then expect a four-week screening, which will encompass April, with episodes slated to release in three waves,” The Direct reported.

Creator Dallas Jenkins dropped a sneak peek in December.

“We wanted to give you a Christmas gift, and that is a another scene from Season 5,” he said in a video clip. “Now you’ve seen a couple already, both of them very intense, very even sad. This one’s uplifting.”

He continued, “This is Jesus wandering through the city of Jerusalem after he’s done the triumphal entry, and something fun happened.”

“In the brief clip from a scene titled ‘An Unexpected Wedding Guest,’ just days before his death, Jesus arrives at the engagement party of a young couple, where he ‘receives a warm welcome,'” Deseret News reported.
