THE CHOSEN Creator Says Show Has ‘Taken On A Life Of Its Own’

THE CHOSEN might be one of the biggest shows on television, but creator Dallas Jenkins says it will always remain “a very intimate story.”
“One of the things that, from the beginning, on Day One of writing 6 years ago when I was in my basement, we put up a word on the wall…it just said, ‘Authentic,’ he told Movieguide®. “Everything that we did, we wanted to be as authentic as possible.”
Jenkins touched on the incredible word-of-mouth responses to THE CHOSEN, which has helped them build their fanbase.
“The show takes on a life of its own because the people who are watching it are telling other people so passionately [to watch it],” he explained. “That’s been the challenge and blessing of this show. The challenge is, we don’t have the kind of money to create a big, huge marketing frenzy ourselves. The blessing has been [that] people seem to be doing that for us.”
He also mentioned what he has planned for upcoming seasons of THE CHOSEN, saying, “We’re going to go beyond the resurrection a little bit, show some of those days before Jesus ascends into heaven…we definitely want to go that far.”
“I love the scope [of the show],” Jenkins continued. “THE CHOSEN is ultimately a very intimate story, and we’re never going to get to a place where we do it like a swords-and-shields epic…even in our big sets, it’s ultimately about people and about relationships, but when you have a big pallet like that to paint on, it is really fun.”
Jenkins recently spoke about what viewers can expect from the upcoming fifth season of THE CHOSEN.
“We show you the joy of worship and the triumph of Jesus coming in as the king of the Jews and the son of David,” he told USA Today. “But we also take a moment — you see this in the teaser — to get inside Jesus’ head and know that it would have been bittersweet.”
Jenkins and his 5&2 Studios recently partnered with Amazon MGM Studios, giving the streamer exclusive rights to THE CHOSEN, as well as a first-look series and feature deal.
“THE CHOSEN has had renowned success captivating audiences across generations, and we are looking forward to collaborating with Dallas and 5&2 Studios on a larger scale,” said Vernon Sanders, the head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, said. “As we look ahead, we see massive opportunities to develop additional faith-inspired content for our global Prime Video customers.”
