THE CHOSEN’s BIBLE ROUNDTABLE Episodes are Back!

By Movieguide® Contributor

THE CHOSEN creator Dallas Jenkins and three religious leaders are talking over Season 4 in a new series of BIBLE ROUNDTABLE episodes.

“At the end of the episode, we are celebrating three things, all at once — maybe not celebrating, but at least reflecting on them — which is, potential betrothal in a marriage, a death, and a birth,” Jenkins started.

Jenkins, Father David Guffey, Rabbi Jason Sobel and Dr. Doug Huffman talked over the details of the first episode of Season 4. The trio also serve as theological advisors on the show.

“I liked that you included the naming of John the Baptist because, at the time, naming was part of the way that a father claimed the child,” Guffey said.

Sobel agreed, saying, “Names have great significance to them.”

Huffman added, “By not giving John the Baptist his own name, Zachariah is showing this submission to the Lord and the Lord’s will for this child.”

Speaking to ChurchLeaders about his role as an advisor on THE CHOSEN, Huffman said that the group hopes people “read the gospels with a proper sense of imagination.”

“I think that’s one of the problems in the world today. We’re too familiar with the Bible…we’ve forgotten how to read it the way that it was intended to be read,” he continued. “I mean that people have forgotten that these are not two-dimensional characters. They are three-dimensional people. They had concerns.”

Jenkins echoed those sentiments in an interview with Variety, saying that showing Jesus’ human side has “been a cool thing in the show.”

“I mean, if you think about God incarnate and being here on Earth and facing some of the limitations that human beings face, what would that be like? How would He express that? And how would He express that knowing that He’s not wrong?” Jenkins asked.

Movieguide® previously reported on Season 4 of THE CHOSEN:

As of July 1, THE CHOSEN is now available on Prime Video, allowing the show to reach over 200 million Americans on the nation’s second-largest streaming platform.

The first three seasons of THE CHOSEN were added to Prime Video’s lineup last summer, where it maintained a spot on the platform’s top 10 list for over 90 consecutive days. Now the entirety of the latest season joins the lineup as the final episode of Season 4 became available at the end of June.

Season 4 of the show brings Jesus and the disciples closer to the crucifixion as they experience some of the hardest and most miraculous parts of the Gospel story. Along with a tougher storyline, Jesus becomes harder on the disciples as well, as He becomes frustrated by their blindness to the history-altering story that they are part of.

“Oh, they’re going to be learning some hard lessons,” Jonathan Roumie told Movieguide® earlier this year. “I think the biggest lesson is to trust. Trust is a big one. It’s like no matter how often Jesus tries to tell them — at this point, He’s telling them very plainly, very clearly — like, ‘Trust me. This is going to happen and this is going to happen, but just trust me.’ And it just [goes over their heads]. So I think trust is one of the hardest lessons to try to be taught this season.”

BIBLE ROUNDTABLE episodes for Episodes 1 and 2 of the fourth season of THE CHOSEN are now available to watch on THE CHOSEN app.
