THE CHOSEN’s Jonathan Roumie Prays for Israel: ‘Called to Pray’

By Movieguide® Contributor

THE CHOSEN star Jonathan Roumie took to YouTube to pray publicly for those suffering amid the war in Israel.

Roumie, who plays Jesus in the popular Christian series, walked through the streets of Italy, sharing his heart about the situation.

“I’m in Europe, where the history comes from, and I felt it in my heart last night, and then today I felt called to pray,” he shared in a video. “I’m going to pray the way I know how to pray and the way I’ve learned how to pray for the maximum amount of spiritual force. I don’t know where I’m going, but I’m gonna just keep walking, and I’m gonna offer up today’s Rosary for all who are suffering in the Middle East, in Israel and Gaza. All the innocent victims that don’t deserve what they’re dealing with right now.”

The video comes from Roumie’s online prayer group he created during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“My fan base was built out of the depths of the disparity that many of us were feeling during COVID, and so I started praying live like this three years ago, and it became something much bigger than myself,” the actor explained.

In this case, he said that his personal relationships and THE CHOSEN’s connection to Israel compelled him to pray.

“Working on THE CHOSEN, you know, we have people that have deep, deep connections to the region, myself included. I’ve got family over there in dire, dire situations and for that reason I felt called to pray,” he said.

Roumie spent the next half hour praying as he walked the Italian streets.

THE CHOSEN creator Dallas Jenkins shared how the war has impacted those working on THE CHOSEN.

“I wanted to give you an update about our friends in Israel,” he wrote in an Instagram post. We have many CHOSEN family members who are impacted: translators and advocates, cultural and religious consultants, and of course our Simon, Shahar Isaac, who lives near Capernaum. At the moment, all are okay, but please continue prayers. Some of them are literally on the front lines while others are in shelters. We kneel with them.”

Continue to pray for THE CHOSEN cast and crew members and everyone else affected by this tragedy.

Movieguide® previously reported on other celebrities praying for Israel:

Actress Reese Witherspoon is heartbroken by the war erupting in Israel and shared her thoughts on the conflict.

“As a mother, I’m having a hard time finding words to express my despair and outrage at the brutal murder and kidnapping of Jewish people in Israel over the past few days. The ongoing conflict and loss of innocent lives in Israel and Palestine is more than the human spirit can bear,” she wrote on Instagram.

“We are witnessing the darkest parts of humanity,” she continued. “As this conflict escalates, I’m praying for the families that are dealing with this unspeakable horror every day. I pray for peace and the end of this darkness. I pray the better parts of our humanity will prevail.”

“As I gather information about trusted resources for relief and aid, I will share more with you all,” she added, saying, “Please God help us find our way.”
