Actress Reese Witherspoon is heartbroken by the war erupting in Israel and shared her thoughts on the conflict.

“As a mother, I’m having a hard time finding words to express my despair and outrage at the brutal murder and kidnapping of Jewish people in Israel over the past few days. The ongoing conflict and loss of innocent lives in Israel and Palestine is more than the human spirit can bear,” she wrote on Instagram.

“We are witnessing the darkest parts of humanity,” she continued. “As this conflict escalates, I’m praying for the families that are dealing with this unspeakable horror every day. I pray for peace and the end of this darkness. I pray the better parts of our humanity will prevail.”

“As I gather information about trusted resources for relief and aid, I will share more with you all,” she added, saying, “Please God help us find our way.”

Palestinian military group Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel on Saturday, igniting intense fighting.

Over 1,200 Israelis have died and the total death toll has surpassed 3,000 since fighting began, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Many celebrities have shared their support for Israel, and the U.S. has promised military aid for the country—one of its closest allies.
