The Kendrick Brothers return to their roots as the Christian filmmakers announced plans to remake their very first movie.

“So today is the first day we’re going to go open the production office here in Rio, Brazil for reshooting FLYWHEEL,” Alex Kendrick said in a Facebook video. “We’re excited to be doing that. It’s going to be better quality, but we’re going to shoot it in Portuguese.”

Stephen Kendrick chimed in, “We don’t know how to speak Portuguese, so just go walking by faith here.”

FLYWHEEL kicked off the brothers’ wide-ranging slate of faith-based films, which includes Teddy Bear Award® winners like FIREPROOF, COURAGEOUS and OVERCOMER. It originally released in 2003 on a low budget of $20,000 with a church-member cast.

Alex continued, “We have a good team here, and today is the very first day about to open the production office.” Stephen added, “Some of them don’t know how to speak English, so they’re walking by faith, too.”

“It’s going to be a good day, and we’ve been praying about this for some time, excited to be working with this team,” Alex continued. “We’re going to reshoot FLYWHEEL. Going to be a different name. We’re updating a lot. The quality is going to be better and title a little bit different. But the culture is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and we can’t wait for you to see it.”

The original FLYWHEEL follows “A dishonest used-car salesman [who] decides to become the salesman that God wants him to be — with surprising results,” per IMDB. It received a +4 content score from Movieguide®. The review says, “FLYWHEEL is one of those rare, low budget movies that totally captures and entertains the audience through the quality of the story.”

The review also notes that “overall the story, which is extremely well written, commands the audience’s attention, and in fact, keeps you on the edge of your seat. What is truly amazing is that this was produced by a church. With a little polish, FLYWHEEL could be a contender in major release. It is worth a bigger budget.”

That is exactly what is happening. And since they have grown, the Kendrick Brothers have been able to produce bigger films including THE FORGE and WAR ROOM.

Above all, the Kendricks “exist to honor Jesus Christ and make His truth and love known among the nations through movies, books, curriculum, and speaking.”

“By prayerfully blending engaging stories with doctrinal integrity, we seek to encourage and inspire viewers and readers with resources that impact their spiritual lives and strengthen their families and personal relationships,” their website says.

If you love the Kendrick Brothers’ work, then you’ll certainly love their updated version of FLYWHEEL!
