Fathom Events is bringing Rodgers and Hammerstein’s THE SOUND OF MUSIC to a theater near you in honor of the classic movie’s 60th anniversary this year.

The Julie Andrews-led musical has been restored and remastered in 4K. It will be available Sept. 13, 14 and 17, featuring some “insights” from film critic and historian Leonard Maltin.

“The beloved classic is more brilliant than ever with pristine picture and sound,” the Fathom Events description reads.

The movie is based on the true story of the Von Trapp family, a father and his seven children who are joined by a spirited nun from a local convent in Austria. As she begins her new job as the kids’ governess, she soon discovers she’s got her hands full. But she quickly wins over their hearts with her wit and charm. As the Nazi regime rises, the family must make a brave escape, making sacrifices along the way.

The movie is one of the most successful musicals ever, featuring songs like “Do-Re-Mi, “Edelweiss” and “My Favorite Things.

VMP reported Fathom Events will also screen some other popular movies this year: INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE (June 14-15 and 18), CLUELESS (June 29 and 30) for its 30th anniversary, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST (July 13 and 16) for its 50th anniversary, SUNSET BOULEVARD (August 3 and 4) for its 75th anniversary and ROCKY IV (November 5 and 9), which features the “Ultimate Director’s Cut.”

Each movie, including THE SOUND OF MUSIC, will feature an exclusive introduction from Maltin. Tickets are currently available to purchase for all movies.

“The appeal of classic and timeless films endures and is a bedrock element of our content offerings,” said Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt. “Fathom is so very pleased with this year’s slate of classic film offerings and is delighted to continue our association with Leonard Maltin to cast a spotlight on these cinematic treasures.”
