THE TERMINAL LIST Author Made a Show to Honor Military—Not Impress Critics

THE TERMINAL LIST author Jack Carr clapped back at the 43 percent critic score for Amazon’s #1 Prime Video series of the same name on Tucker Carlson’s show last Friday.

Though the show has garnered a low critic score, audiences love THE TERMINAL LIST.

“The 95 percent viewer rating, audience rating, makes it all worth it,” Carr said. “We didn’t make it for the critics. We made it for those in the arena. We made it for the soldier, sailor, airman and Marine that went downrange to Iraq and Afghanistan, so they could sit on the couch and say, ‘Hey, these guys put in the work. They put in the effort to make something special and make a show that speaks to them.’ And that 95 percent rating lets me know that we at least got close.”

Movieguide® previously reported on how THE TERMINAL LIST star Chris Pratt honored veterans at the show’s premiere.

“[I have an] absolute affinity for our Navy SEAL community, for our men and women in uniform, and especially for our special operators and all they go through and all they sacrifice,” Pratt said.

THE TERMINAL LIST follows former Navy SEAL James Reece (Chris Pratt) as he investigates the ambush of his platoon during a covert mission. Taking justice into his own hands, he starts a list of those who wronged him, endeavoring to cross off every name.

While audiences have enjoyed the action-packed series, critics find only flaws. When asked about this phenomenon, Carr said that the low critic score “falls right in line with everything that I understand about the current culture and climate in America right now, and it seems to have triggered quite a few of these critics.”

Carr then shared The Daily Beast’s reaction to the series, which they called “an unhinged right-wing revenge fantasy.” Carr found this “odd because right, left, conservative, liberal are not even mentioned in the show.”

However, Carr believes this sentiment stems from a protagonist “competent with weapons and tactics. He’s strong. He holds those in power accountable, and that could be unsettling for some, particularly some maybe senior members of the military who have failed upwards over the last 20 years.”

Another critic asked what to call this show, and Carr quipped, “the number one series on Prime Video.”

While critics continue to bemoan the series’ success, Pratt reiterated Carr’s perspective in a recent Instagram post, saying, “This is a series made for the special operator, the veteran, the warrior, and anyone who wants to watch a…good show.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Chris Pratt and THE TERMINAL LIST:

Actor Chris Pratt recently honored World War II veterans at a Los Angeles premiere of his upcoming movie, THE TERMINAL LIST, where he stars as a U.S. Navy Seal.
“Well, this is a wonderful group of extraordinary men of the greatest generation,” Pratt told the Associated Press. “These are World War II veterans, and every year they take a pilgrimage back to Normandy.”
Pratt is candid about his connection to the U.S. military through the service of family members, like his brother Cully Pratt.
“It was an opportunity to just … catch up with them. I’ve been following their story,” Pratt said. “And when I saw them, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh. We’ve got to spend time together’… I’d like to sit down and really talk to them and honor them for their great sacrifice.”

“This is a wonderful group of extraordinary men of the greatest generation,” Pratt added.
The JURASSIC WORLD actor also expressed his gratitude for all military personnel.

“[I have an] absolute affinity for our Navy SEAL community, for our men and women in uniform, and especially for our special operators and all they go through and all they sacrifice,” he told Reuters.
Pratt called on the mainstream media to honor and respect military servicemen and women in how they present them to the world.
“The more we can look at our veterans for who they are, actual people, with siblings and parents, with children and funny pasts — the more we can approach our relationships to them with compassion and understanding,” Pratt said.

“What makes these men so particularly special is their mortality,” he continued. “You know, they step into these fights knowing they can die. They don’t do it because they have a bulletproof vest and they’re faster than a speeding bullet … These are guys who have each others’ backs and who routinely do sacrifice their lives in the line of duty.”
