When life gets busy, taking time to rest feels impossible. But influencer Brittany Lutz believes it could be the most important thing.
“Rest is not a reward. Rest is what makes great work possible,” she wrote over a video of her with her two children.
“I heard Dr James Hewitt say this [above quote] (didn’t know who he was but thanks YouTube shorts!) and it totally convicted me!!” Lutz, who’s the wife of TWILIGHT star Kellan Lutz, wrote in the caption.
“The word ‘rest’ is mentioned over 400 times in the Bible and God even commands His people to rest in scripture,” she said. “Yet here I am so many days feeling as though the day wasn’t productive if I don’t go to bed completely spent and exhausted.”

She often ends up treating “the rest as the reward IF and WHEN I get enough done and can earn it.”
“But what would life look like if I did it God’s way?” Lutz asked. “If instead of striving every day from a deficit, I prioritized rest and THEN proceeded to care for my family, tackled my to-do list and, maybe most importantly, tended to my own soul’s care?”
Lutz continued, “It’s a very simple concept, but it seems to be so hard for some us. Especially us first born daughters (what’s that about anyway?!). But I desperately needed to hear this and I thought one of you might too! We may need to rearrange our lives and some things might need to go away for a season, but what would life look like if we treated rest like the currency in which we actually needed to pay for every good thing in our lives?”
People in the comment section agreed with Lutz and thanked her for the encouragement.
“Speaking to my soul. Please keep sharing these!” one person said. Another added, “Amen amen- I’ve been struggling with this so much lately, and I keep feeling this word on my soul!”
As Lutz pointed out, rest is biblical. Even God rested from His work after He created the world.
In Matthew 11:28-29, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Lutz frequently posts to Instagram, encouraging her fans, sharing her faith and reflecting on God’s blessings. Recently she posted a reel of her family waving at her through the window, which she says makes her feel “rich.”
It is refreshing to have influencers like Lutz who encourage us in our faith and family lives in a world that seems to be forgetting their value.
