Tori Kelly Announces New Song About Health Scare: ‘Hope It Can Uplift People’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Tori Kelly recently shared plans for “inspirational” music about her recent health scare and hospitalization.

“I had a health scare last year, so I thought my album was done, and then when that happened I was like, ‘I need an inspirational song. I need something to kind of pick me up out of this place,’” Kelly told PEOPLE. “Now, I just hope it can uplift other people as well when they hear it.”

The song, called “high water,” will be part of her upcoming album, “TORI,” which is set to release April 5.

“I have been working on my next album for the last few years, exploring new sounds & expressing so many different sides of myself,” Kelly said in a statement about the track. “I thought I had covered it all until I had a health scare in July of last year that reminded me just how fragile life can be. ‘high water’ is about simply holding on and believing that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Kelly’s health scare:

Singer-songwriter Tori Kelly is “feeling stronger” after being rushed to the hospital on Sunday for multiple blood clots.

“Hi friends,” Kelly wrote in a note posted to social media. “As you may have heard, i’m dealing with some unexpected health challenges. It’s been a scary few days, but I can feel your prayers & can’t stop thinking about you.”

She reassured fans she was “feeling stronger” and “hopeful” but will remain in the hospital as doctors continue to work on her condition and recovery.

The singer-songwriter spoke more about the experience during an appearance on THE JENNIFER HUDSON SHOW.

“I actually ended up collapsing one night and they found out that I had blood clots. It was really crazy and scary,” she said. “My family was definitely there for me. I had a peace throughout most of it, but I was just kinda confused and wondering what was going on. I thankfully had some amazing doctors who were able to just take care of everything and get me healthy.”

Kelly added, “It seems like it’s a manageable thing now, I feel amazing. They’re still monitoring me, but yeah I feel great. I’m back to singing and back to doing my thing. I feel really good, I’m really grateful.”
