TRANSFORMERS ONE Slated to Score Big at Domestic Box Office

Paramount Animation and Hasbro Entertainment’s latest animated venture, TRANSFORMERS ONE, is projected to kick off in the $30m range at the domestic box office.
TRANSFORMERS ONE, which officially opens this weekend, “will keep the domestic box office at its excellent clip. Through the last weekend of April, the domestic B.O. stood at $2.07 billion, 20% behind 2023,” Deadline reported Sept. 17. “Since then, through last weekend, the domestic box office has made an additional $4 billion for a running YTD cume of $6.08 billion, now 12% behind last year.”
TRANSFORMERS ONE is slated to sell more tickets than BEETLEJUICE BEETLJUICE, which will be in its third week. The Tim Burton flick is only expected to bring in $25m that week.
Deadline added, “Josh Cooley directed what has been described for months as one of Paramount’s highest-testing animated movies. The $75M production tells the origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, who were buddies before becoming sworn enemies. That relationship will impact the fate of Cybertron forever.”
Movieguide®’s review reads:
TRANSFORMERS ONE is a spectacular animated movie about the origins of the epic battle between the good Autobots and the evil Decepticon robots. On the planet Cybertron, a lowly mining robot, Orion Pax, and his friend, D-16, discover a holographic map to the missing Matrix of Leadership. The Matrix is a device that may help them awaken the power of their creator, Primus, the source of the liquid energon that fuels robotkind and their machines. It’s much easier to use the liquid form of the material than to mine the solid ore. However, Orion Pax also discovers their planet is ruled by a deceitful tyrannical government. A great war ensures.
TRANSFORMERS ONE tells an exciting, well-written, crowd-pleasing, often funny story. The animation is amazing, and the characters are well-crafted. TRANSFORMERS ONE also has strong allegorical situations and themes reflecting Biblical, Christian, morally uplifting, conservative values. It promotes sacrifice, fighting totalitarian tyranny, individual liberty, and self-determination. There’s also a powerful death and resurrection scene. However, TRANSFORMERS ONE has lots of strong action violence with large robots battling one another and some light foul language.
The cast is voiced by Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key and Steve Buscemi with Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm.
It’s produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy, Michael Bay, Mark Vahradian and Aaron Dem.
The first live-action Transformers movie, TRANSFORMERS (2007), won a Movieguide® Teddy Bear Award®.
TRANSFORMERS ONE had early fan screenings on Wednesday, and currently the Rotten Tomatoes score ties with another movie in the franchise — BUMBLEBEE — at 90%.
“TRANSFORMERS ONE ticket sales are also said to be ahead of the animated movies, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (opened to $28M 3-day), and Trolls Band Together ($30M),” Cosmic Book News reported.
