Brendan Fraser says Dwight Eisenhower’s “deep respect for the troops” is at the heart of new movie PRESSURE.
“[Eisenhower was] an excellent diplomat, excellent strategist,” Fraser told Movieguide® of his character. “We meet him on this fateful weekend with four stars on his epaulets. There’s a lot of history there for me, the actor, to try and digest.”
The actor continued, “He had deep respect for the troops. And in turn, it is palpable that they did, too. So much so that respect almost became like a secret weapon of sorts.”
In PRESSURE, Fraser’s Eisenhower is planning the now-famous D-Day invasion. However, when meteorologist Capt. James Stagg, played by Andrew Scott, forecasts bad weather conditions, he must decide whether or not to go ahead with the mission.

“The fly-on-the-wall point of view that our audience is treated to in this film gets to see the imaginings of those conversations, and what went into it, and what was at stake,” Fraser explained.
In an interview with USA Today, Scott admitted PRESSURE has a bit of an “unusual premise” but pointed out that “the weather is something that literally dictates every single human being’s day, every single day. And it’s something that is so embedded in our consciousness that we almost sort of discard it: Do I need an umbrella? Do I need a coat? Am I going to be cold? It’s so omnipresent in our lives that of course it’s going to influence some of the greatest things that ever happened in the world.”
“In order for D-Day to be successful, you just absolutely need the right weather conditions, and that’s just not something that you would necessarily even begin to think about,” he continued. “That’s to me the thing that was sort of so extraordinary about how a famous date that we know almost never took place in the way that it did because of this man’s expertise.”
This isn’t the only exciting project Fraser has coming up; the actor is currently preparing to reprise his role as adventurer Rick O’Connell in THE MUMMY 4.
“We’re gonna get the band back together,” he said during an appearance on THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JIMMY FALLON. “The only way to do it. So, we are going to give the audience what they have been bothering all of us for, for the last 20-whatever years.”
He added, “However, please wish me luck. I’m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape.”
PRESSURE premieres in theaters May 29.
