Verizon Offers YouTube Premium Discount, Adds Peacock to Line-Up

Verizon will now offer YouTube Premium and Peacock as part of its plan options.
“The telecom firm said it will offer YouTube Premium for $10 per month, offering savings of 30% to myPlan customers, starting Thursday,” Reuters reported. “Peacock streaming service, under NBCUniversal, will be made available from June 5 through Verizon’s +play, an entertainment hub that offers consolidated streaming and lifestyle subscriptions to customers.”
Verizon already offers wireless customers discounts on other streaming platforms.
“Current myPlan perks do give Verizon wireless customers discounts on a Netflix-Max with ads bundle for $10/month (a 40% savings) and a Disney bundle of Disney+ (no ads), Hulu (with ads) and ESPN+ for $10/month (which is 33% less than a package Disney offers that includes Disney+ with ads),” Variety said. “In addition, Verizon is currently offering six months of the Disney bundle for no extra charge to customers who switch to either the Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate plan.”
The company launched myPlan last year to “let you pick and choose plan features/perks,” 9to5 Google reported. Chief revenue officer for Verizon Consumer Group, Frank Boulben, emphasized that the biggest things customers want in their subscription plan are options.
“Customers want three things in their wireless plans: control, flexibility and choice,” he explained. “They want to be able to change their minds every month — they don’t want to be locked in for two years.”
Verizon currently has over 13 million video subscribers and continues to grow.
The platform also provides other services such as “Apple One (Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade and iCloud+), Apple Music Family, Walmart+ (which includes Paramount+), 100 gigabytes/month of mobile hotspot data, and unlimited cloud storage.”
Bundling isn’t anything new. Movieguide® recently reported on Comcast’s new streaming bundle:
“As an add-on to Comcast Xfinity TV or broadband, the StreamSaver bundle will cost $15 per month — a discount of at least 35% compared with price of the services purchased separately. In addition, Comcast will offer Netflix and Apple TV+ to its Now TV streaming-only service, which has Peacock and 40 free, ad-supported streaming TV channels, for $30 per month (versus $20/month without them),” Variety explained.
“If you’re an existing customer, could be broadband, Xfinity TV, mobile, any form of packages of existing customers, you can get it for $15… Now we’re adding Netflix and Apple TV+ and that will be available for $30 (a month),” explained Dave Watson, President and CEO of Comcast Cable.
“StreamSaver is a homerun for consumers who want top-tier entertainment and live sports, and for our world-class partners Peacock, Netflix and Apple who benefit from the reach and depth of our entertainment platforms and Xfinity’s marketing engine,” he added.
“StreamSaver also reinforces the value of our broadband products, offering customers new ways to save money on streaming entertainment via the nation’s best and most reliable network in and out of the home,” Watson continued.
