For the first time in 20 years, HGTV star Joanna Gaines decided to take a break last summer to enjoy some much-needed rest and relaxation.

“That time away gave us clarity for what’s next, and [reinforced that] sometimes it’s important to step away for a second so you can understand what you’re holding and also understand, ‘What do I need to let go of?’ Because you can’t carry everything with you as you move forward. You’ve got to drop something if you’re going to keep picking more up,” Gaines said on an episode of “The Business of Home Podcast.”

The Magnolia Network star continued: “When people ask, ‘What would you do [if you could do anything]?’ Even if it’s a day to step away and journal, just get outside of it. It’s that intentional time that you’re creating for yourself to be able to dream for what’s next that’s important. Whether it’s three months, a week or a day, it’s that intention to really see above and beyond, is what I would just say to anybody who has a business.”

Joanna Gaines went on to talk about how she needed to learn to say no to things. However, she also learned she doesn’t need to fear saying yes.

“There’s no fear in saying yes — there’s only more to learn, more to gain, even though there could be a loss,” she said. “Trust me, we failed many times. But the way I look at it now is, I’m just so much smarter because of that failure. I think that’s why I’m so thankful for having a partner like Chip, because he pushes on all the uncomfortable places for me. The comfort for me is still saying no, and really, that’s not living.”

But Joanna and her husband Chip are back at it, ready to take on new challenges and inspire fans. Their Magnolia Market offers home reno enthusiasts the opportunity to bring some of the Gaineses’ creative flare into their own homes.

The couple just announced their summer collection.

“We really wanted this summer collection to look and feel like the spirit of the season,” Joanna Gaines wrote in a post on social media. “Nostalgic, but not without a little adventure. I’m so proud of our team for how we pulled together the best of both of these worlds. Our new collection launches today! I hope you’ll see familiar colors showcased in vibrant hues and vintage patterns reimagined in unexpected places.”

She’s also getting ready to launch her new show MINI RENI, a nine-episode series debuting on the Magnolia Network on May 19.

Taking a break certainly amped Chip and Joanna Gaines up for new projects, reminding us that when we’re feeling burned out, pausing to dream can be exactly what we need.
