WATCH: Donald Trump Joins Franklin Graham in Prayer for Hurricane Helene Victims
By Movieguide® Staff
Former President Donald Trump took a moment to pray with Franklin Graham for the victims of Hurricane Helene.
“We pray to God for those that have been so badly injured and for in particular for the people that are no longer with us,” Trump said before handing the microphone over to Graham, who helms Samaritan’s Purse, a disaster relief organization.
“It is going to take an army of volunteers and people to respond, and at Samaritan’s Purse we want to always respond in Jesus’ name. We want people to know that God loves them, that God cares for them,” Graham said.
“Sometimes when a storm like this comes, people think, ‘Well, maybe God is mad at us, maybe this is His judgment?’ No. God loves us. How do I know that? Because the Bible tells us that God loves us and cares for us,” Graham said.
The two were speaking in Valdosta, Georgia, surveying the damage and working some of the disaster response.
“In Florida, our teams are based in Perry and the greater Tampa area, where homes have been severely flooded after Hurricane Helene made landfall as a Category 4 storm. We are also responding in Valdosta, Georgia to help suffering families as they begin their long road of recovery,” according to a Samaritan’s Purse Instagram post.
“Boone, North Carolina—home to the Samaritan’s Purse international headquarters—and a large swath of surrounding communities have been particularly hard-hit with toppled trees, flash flooding, road damage, and lack of power and water. We have established a response throughout western North Carolina and are also assisting area hospitals by providing oxygen support for those who have lost power and require the use of oxygen for medical needs. We’ve set up a two-tent unit in the parking lot of Watauga County Medical Center as well as one in Linville at the Cannon Memorial Hospital,” the post continued.
As of September 30, more than 100 people died due to the storm and its fallout, with more than 1.7 million people and businesses still without power days after the hurricane made landfall in the United States, according to USA TODAY.
USA TODAY also reported:
Hundreds of water rescues have taken place across Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee and Virginia since Helene’s brutal landfall in Florida’s Big Bend area late Thursday.
Atlanta totaled more than 11 inches of rain in 48 hours, smashing a record that stood for almost 150 years. Western North Carolina took the brunt of the devastating rains, and more than 30 inches was recorded in some areas. Houses floated away from subdivisions, bridges crumbled, semi-trucks were tossed into mangled piles. Mud, tree branches and food from local grocery stores flowed into the streets.
Samaritan’s Purse shared several photos on Instagram of the areas they were serving.
