Brandon Lake explained why King of Hearts was the perfect title for his newest album as it encompassed the path of his life while also pointing to who Jesus is.
“I feel like I’ve been collecting songs for the past two years, and now, today’s the day. I’ve been looking forward to this day for a long time,” Lake told Fox News Digital. “Funny enough, I got this tattoo a while back on my finger, ‘king of hearts,’ just as a reminder that more than focusing on the products and the things that I’m making [is] the fact that I exist to minister to people. You know, to minister to God, but also, like, ministry’s about people. I’m here to reach people, love on people, serve people, and I want to be a king of hearts and shepherd people well, no matter what I’m doing. So just the idea kind of resonated with me.”
“And then also, I just thought it was a cool title and way to describe God and describe Jesus as that. He was all about people; He was the king of their hearts,” Lake continued.
“More than what He wanted from people, the things that we do, He cares about our heart, and I wanted to remind people through this record that no matter what you’ve done, where you’ve gone, He is a king of the broken, the hopeless, the poor, the lonely, the critics, the misfits, the gone-too-fars. He’s king of hearts,” he emphasized. “And that’s what He cares about most, so that’s how I felt the perfect umbrella for the rest of the songs.”

The album, which released earlier this month, has already found major success, debuting as the No. 1 album across all charts. Many of the songs have already racked up millions of streams on Spotify and spoken the Gospel into the lives of listeners. Along with Lake, King of Hearts includes songs that feature Jelly Roll, Cece Winans, Hank Bentely and Hulvey.
“It’s not for the seemingly put together, but for those honest about their brokenness, longing to connect with their Creator,” Lake said about the inspiration behind his new album. “He is the King of the universe, nations, creation — but most of all, King of hearts.”
As the Lord continues to move in Lake’s life and career, it is amazing just how many people he impacts through his music as he helps them see God in a new light or for the very first time.
