What This Influencer Thinks About Her ‘Trad Wife’ Label

By Movieguide® Contributor

Influencer Nara Smith often finds herself going viral on social media as part of the “trad wife” trend. She recently opened up about how she really feels about the label.

“I don’t understand where that came from because I’m a working mom I work, take care of my kids, and cooking is my passion,” Smith told TODAY WITH HODA & JENNA. “I love cooking, just showing that to people, so I never understand where that comes from.”

The 23-year-old mom-of-three often posts videos of her elaborate, made-from-scratch homemade goods.

She even made her own sprinkles and butter for a sugar cookie demonstration while on the TODAY SHOW.

“I feel like people love to see it,” Smith said. “They love to follow along the journey, and I’m just excited to provide that for them.”

The trad wife trend often stokes controversy across social media because the so-called trad wives aren’t truly traditional.

“Although their entire lifestyle revolves around so-called traditional values, they are constantly attached to their very modern smartphones,” Parents.com explained. “On top of that, they pretend that their husbands are the anchor of their families—but the only reason their families are getting any recognition at all is because of their social-media based labor.”

In all things, though, women should take their cues for life from what the Bible says about womanhood, not the latest social media trend. Proverbs 31’s description of a virtuous woman in some ways resembles a trad wife:

She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.

Whether or not social media influencers are true “traditional wives,” we can be grateful that they display hard-working women who love their families and honor their husbands.
