Buckle up for an intense country music adventure as musicians Keith Urban and Blake Shelton kick off their new music competition show THE ROAD.
“From Taylor Sheridan and the team behind YELLOWSTONE and LANDMAN, along with Blake Shelton and Keith Urban, comes THE ROAD, a journey to discover the next big musician,” the logline reads.
The show, which premieres Oct. 16, will follow 12 musicians who join Urban on tour as his opening act.
The synopsis continues, “The series provides a backstage pass into the gritty and unforgiving life of a touring artist. With exclusive access to the inner workings of the music industry, follow some of the best up-and-coming musicians as they pile into a tour bus and hit the road in pursuit of their dreams.”
The winner of the competition will receive $250,000 cash as well as recording contract and a chance to perform at the Stagecoach Country Music Festival 2026.

“I spent a lot of my underage life playing in some seedy pubs, sometimes just for the bartender. So I love the idea of throwing artists into a real-world environment to find out if they are artists,” Urban said earlier this year of what inspired THE ROAD.
He added, “Paying your dues sucks, but there are things in this business that can’t be taught, like how to put together a set list, whether to extend or cut a song during your performance or how to work the crowd.”
He loves touring, so he hopes he can show up-and-coming stars what it takes to really make it.
“For me, touring has always been my first love. It’s where the rubber meets the road. But it’s the only road to take if you want to be a performer.”
Shelton and Sheridan executive produce. Country singer Gretchen Wilson will join as “Tour Manager.”
“Thrilled to announce that the ultimate redneck woman and country-music powerhouse @gretchenwilson27 will appear in the special role of “Tour Manager” on #TheRoad,” the show announced on Instagram.
“Stepping into the role of ‘tour manager’ for THE ROAD has allowed me to take everything I’ve learned over all of my years of touring and pour it right back into these emerging musicians,” Wilson said. “Helping them sharpen their talents to capture the attention of these crowds across America and guiding them through the real and raw grind of life on the road, has been a highlight of my career. Working with Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Taylor Sheridan and the rest of the team and our incredible crew was absolutely amazing. It was an honor to be a part of this team, and I can’t wait for the world to watch!”
Other guest advisors will include Jordan Davis, Little Big Town‘s Karen Fairchild, Dustin Lynch and Brothers Osborne.
People seem to be looking forward to this new adventure.
“Brilliant idea 💡! This is the real thing and Keith is perfect for this!” one person said on Instagram. Another person added, “Can’t wait to see what the road is about. Blake and Keith two great powerhouse musicians. It will be great.”
THE ROAD will air on Oct. 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
