When You Pray, Keep This in Mind…

Christian actress Priscilla Shirer knows we are all fighting in a spiritual battle and believes prayer is our best weapon.
“There are spiritual realities behind the physical ones, and that’s kind of the first step of being strategic in prayer is that we recognize Ephesians 6, that everything physical and visible has a spiritual reality behind it,” she explained on Candace Cameron Bure’s podcast.
The scripture Shirer is referencing is Ephesians 6:11, which says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
She continued, “So if we’re not even aware of that, if we’re not even discerning enough to realize that the physical problem our spouse, the coworker…that one the problem we’re dealing with financially, or whatever that physical thing, anything you can relate to with your five physical senses…that’s not really the problem, that’s the symptom of the problem.”
Shirer emphasized focusing on the root of the problem and praying for that: “You’ve got to ask Him what’s the undercurrent here? Where do I see the fingerprints of the enemy trying to work?”
Once the root behind the problem is identified, Shirer recommends fighting it with the promises of God in prayer.
“What does the scripture say that is in opposition to this? What are the promises of God about fear? That He has not given me a spirit of fear but of power, of love and a sound mind,” she said.
Shirer focuses on the power of prayer in her 2015 movie WAR ROOM.
WAR ROOM is spiritually and emotionally powerful. Most viewers will cheer at the end. “[The Bible] says pray. Not like a prayer a day to keep the devil away. Not like a prayer over your meal just ’cause that’s what your mother did and that’s what your grandmother did and that’s what you’re supposed to do. Not something quick and causal. Fervent, prioritized prayer,” Shirer said previously. “Y’all, you can’t have victory if you don’t pray.”
