Christian Actress Explains Why We Need to Pray
By Movieguide® Contributor
Actress Priscilla Shirer explained how prayer opens up the kingdom of heaven and helps God’s people access the blessings of heaven on earth.
“[The Bible] says pray. Not like a prayer a day to keep the devil away. Not like a prayer over your meal just ’cause that’s what your mother did and that’s what your grandmother did and that’s what you’re supposed to do. Not something quick and causal. Fervent, prioritized prayer,” Shirer said. “Y’all, you can’t have victory if you don’t pray.”
“Prayer is the key that unlocks the resources of heaven so that they can be unleashed on planet Earth,” she continued. “Prayer is the key He has actually given you to get all the good stuff down here. ‘Cause I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to wait to get to heaven to experience all that God has planned for me. Any bits of heaven He plans to give me on earth, I want it right now. Prayer accesses the bits of heaven He intends to give you right now.”
“Prayer is what pushes the kingdom of darkness back,” Shirer added. “That’s why Jesus said…at the end of the day, my house better be called a house of prayer…when my people who are called by my name, when they will humble themselves and when they’ll pray; then I’ll heal from heaven and I’ll heal the land and the enemy will have to bend his knee to my people in prayer.”
Shirer has long preached the power of prayer and represented its strength on screen for years. Her previous projects have been recognized by Movieguide® for the incredible impact they’ve had on audiences’ faith. WAR ROOM and OVERCOMER both received the Epiphany Prize®.
Her most recent movie, THE FORGE, continued her work of promoting strong Christian values and inspiring audiences to take their faith seriously. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:
The first act of THE FORGE is a bit slow with too much static dialogue. However, once the jeopardy starts, it becomes more exciting and finishes with a powerful, entertaining, redemptive ending. THE FORGE has a strong Christian, biblical worldview. It does a beautiful job displaying the deep need for discipleship in the Church. It spurs Christian believers to disciple and mentor the next generation. The movie also shows how prayer changes hearts and has a clear presentation of the Gospel. THE FORGE will inspire the hearts of Christians to continue being fully committed to Christ.
“Who knew that we would be in a day and age and a generation where there would be faith-based films that don’t water down the message but also have excellence in storytelling and cinematography?” Shirer said in an interview with Movieguide® about the movie. “The fact that I get to be a part of that feels like a gift to me.”
Movieguide® previously reported:
WAR ROOM star Priscilla Shirer recently spoke about the importance of prayer and how it can strengthen our understanding of God.
“The word of God is the sword of the Spirit,” she said during an appearance on TBN’s PRAISE. “One of the things I walked away with from [WAR ROOM]…it occurred to me that, while I did value prayer, I had neglected intentionality with prayer…”
Shirer explained that enemies would want to “devalue in your mind the potency of what I know to be the most powerful weapon you have against me…it’s the prayer that pushes back the kingdom of darkness.”
