Kathie Lee Gifford might enjoy her life in the spotlight, but she recently explained why she made the decision to keep her children out of it.

“I’m not acting out this life of mine. I’m living it,” she recently told Fox News. “That’s why I said no to a reality series every time it was offered to me. I said, ‘No, I’m in show business and I chose that as a child. My children didn’t. I’m going to go home to my children and my husband every day and have a life that’s private as much as possible. Keep my children out of it.’”

These days, that private life also includes her grandchildren. This summer, Gifford welcomed first granddaughter Rose, followed by another granddaughter, Faith, in September. She’s also “Bubbe” to grandsons Frankie, Finn and Ford.

“It’s everything everybody says it is, it’s just joy,” she said during a 2024 appearance on the TODAY show. “It’s so joyful to see your children marry the people they love, truly love. And then build a family of their own and then share their families.”

In a 2022 interview following the birth of first grandson Frank, Gifford shared, “Every moment is a gift.”

“I knew I was going to love Frank instantly because I love babies,” she continued. “But this is my son’s child — my husband’s son’s son — it’s all such a beautiful tapestry of life and creation.”

In addition to her busy family life, Gifford is promoting her latest book, Nero and Paul, a work of historical fiction that tells the story of Roman Emperor Nero and Apostle Paul.

She shared with Fox News that her hope for the book is that readers will receive the message that “the Lord God [is] still present in every nanosecond of our lives.”

“We’re hoping to make these into a docuseries because they’re just so exciting,” Gifford continued. “It’s like a thriller. So I’m trying to tell people, and they’re listening to me, and they’re enjoying it so much more. Instead of reading it, which it’s thick. There’s a lot of history here, a lot of stuff. Just listen to me when you’re in the car, or you’re winding down or something, and let me tell the story. Let me do the hard work. And you’ll get wrapped up in this thing, and you will go, ‘Are you kidding me?’ You know, it’s that good.”

Gifford has never shied away from her life in the spotlight, but for the former TV personality, her family’s private life has always been the most important thing.
