Why Ryan Reynolds’ Kids are Obsessed with His New Movie IF

Ryan Reynolds revealed that his kids are extremely excited about his new movie IF and can’t stop watching the trailer.

“They’ve seen the trailer, and they don’t stop watching the trailer,” Reynolds told PEOPLE, adding that the obsession has started to impact their daily routines. “[I sometimes have to tell them] we’re going to school right now. We’re not watching the trailer. We’re going to school.”

The movie revolves around a young girl, Bea, who can see everyone’s imaginary friends. She uses this power to reconnect lost friends and help imaginary friends who have lost their kids as they have grown up.

The movie is popular among Reynolds’ kids because they are at the age where they have multiple imaginary friends, and it is fun for them to see them on the big screen.

“My daughter Betty, she has a very vivid imagination, so there’s always somebody standing behind me and I turn around quickly like a horror movie and I realize no, it’s just Harvey from the old movie HARVEY. It’s a 6-foot-5 rabbit,” Reynolds said.

It’s not always his kids’ imagination running wild, however. Sometimes props from previous movies come back to haunt Reynolds’ family.

“I have the original [Deadpool] suit… like a mold of my body downstairs in the basement,” he said. “And it was just sort of silhouetted one night and one of my kids went down there, screamed bloody murder. I ran down there because I forgot it was down there and I screamed bloody murder [too].”

IF stars Reynolds along with Steve Carell, Cailey Fleming, John Krasinski, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fiona Show, Louis Gossett Jr. and Alan Kim. The movie was also written and directed by Krasinski.

IF is in theaters now. Check back soon for Movieguide®’s review.

Actor John Krasinski recently spoke on why his new movie IF is “his most personal movie yet.”

“I made this movie for my kids,” THE OFFICE actor shared. “I’ve always wanted to make a movie for my kids, but I wasn’t sure what to do. And I had this idea to do something with imaginary friends, but I wasn’t sure what my take on it would be.”

Krasinski explained how he and his wife Emily Blunt would watch their daughters “go into this magical world that as parents were not invited into” and that “they were themselves and they were fearless, and they were doing all these amazing things doing all these amazing voices.” This inspired him to create a film about this world.

Joining the film is none other than Krasinski’s former OFFICE co-star, Steve Carell.

“I wrote the part for Steve, so I actually couldn’t write this script without having his voice in my head, but I didn’t know he was going to say yes,” Krasinski said.
