Why Tim Tebow Believes ‘Hard Work Beats Talent’

Heisman trophy winner and college football analyst Tim Tebow shares why he values hard work over talent.

“One of my favorite quotes [is] ‘Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work as hard,’” the former NFL star said in a recent Instagram video.

“I’ve held onto it because it’s something that motivated me. Knowing that when I show up onto a court, onto a field, onto a diamond, to a classroom, I’m not always going to be the most talented,” he shared. “Most of the time I’m not. But if you give me enough time, enough opportunities, then hard work can beat talent when talent doesn’t work as hard.”

“I think that’s motivating to all of us because if you believe more in your willpower and your work ethic over just your talent, then you’ll believe in that quote,” Tebow continued.

“If you’re someone that shows up and just relies on talent, then you don’t want to give other people more chances,” he added.

For him, avoiding hard work doesn’t honor the talents God has given him.

“If I didn’t work as hard as I could, then I think it would be a bit like saying, ‘God, thanks for giving me this ability, but I don’t really care about it,” Tebow explained. “I’m going to do something else, and I’m not going to work quite as hard.”

“I think that’s something that has always motivated me: knowing when I show up, be the most talented but believing that if you put in the hard work, the dedication, the focus that you’re fixing your eyes to a task, you don’t want to be the first one to blink,” he concluded.

“We might not always be the most talented in the room but when we show up and put the hard work in, willpower can beat talent any day! Keep pushing!” Tebow captioned the post.

The former football star also shared the encouragement on his X page.

“Just like God shows up for [us] every day. We should show up to move towards our purpose,” one fan responded.

Christians should work hard to fulfill their God-given purpose. Not because of a “standard” but because of a desire to do what pleases and honors God, as Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27.

Movieguide® recently reported on Tebow:

NFL star Tim Tebow challenged his Instagram followers to look at their lives to see if they are more passionate about anything other than Jesus.

Tebow wrote, “IG Fam, what are you most passionate about in life? Are you more passionate about that than Jesus?”

In the video, Tebow said, “What are you most passionate about? It doesn’t mean those things are wrong. Being passionate about sports isn’t wrong. Being passionate about school isn’t wrong. Being passionate about your job, your occupation, I would say it’s a good thing.”

“But is it more than Jesus? Is it more than the call on your life? Is it more than hurting people? Or is it in its proper place?” he asked.
