Zendaya Excited for Possible DUNE 3: ‘A Yes From Me’

By Movieguide® Contributor

As the cast of DUNE: PART TWO gears up for the movie’s press tour, star Zendaya revealed that she is open to working on a third movie and is excited to see what the director, Denis Villeneuve, does next.

“Would we be down? I mean of course. Anytime Denis calls it’s a yes from me, at least,” Zendaya said. “I’m excited to see what happens. I started [reading ‘Dune] Messiah’ and I was like, ‘Woah, I’m only shooting the first movie. Let me just go back to the first one.’ It’s so much to take in, and I think there’s no better hands with better care and love for it than [Villeneuve].”

Though there are currently no public plans for a third movie, Villeneuve told Empire magazine last year that he is very interested in turning DUNE into a trilogy. However, he would still feel accomplished if the series ended after PART TWO.

“If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream,” Villeneuve said. “’Dune Messiah’ was written in reaction to the fact that people perceived Paul Atreides as a hero. Which is not what [author Frank Herbert] actually wanted to do. My adaptation is closer to his idea that it’s actually a warning.”

However, the director has no interest in taking the franchise beyond ‘Messiah’ because “after that, the books become more… esoteric.”

Zendaya, meanwhile, appears excited for an inevitable third movie but doesn’t want fans to get their hopes up because she doesn’t know how long it will be before MESSIAH will be made.

“[I’m] just excited to see…It’s just anticipation,” Zendaya said. “Whenever [Villeneuve] is ready. I know he’s a perfectionist in many ways and doesn’t want to share things unless he’s fully ready to do that. So [I’m] respecting that and waiting until he’s ready.”

Until then, fans can look forward to DUNE: PART TWO, which hits theaters March 1.

Movieguide® previously reported:

In a sequel to the first film, Warner Bros and Legendary Entertainment release the first official trailer for DUNE: PART TWO.

If the second film is anything like the first film, which also received a Movieguide® Award Nomination, we will see much more action and excitement.

DUNE: PART TWO will take viewers along the journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he finds Chani (Zendaya) and the Freman. He embarks on a journey of revenge against the conspirators who ruined his family. Atreides is faced with a decision to make, the love of his life and the fate of the world. He voyages to stop a horrifying future only he can see.

In a Warner Bros presentation in Las Vegas Zendaya stated, “She’s not just in dreams this time. I only got a small time to find out who she was [in Part One]. … These are still two young people who are trying to grow up, fall in love and leave, being a warrior for your people.”
