Pro-Family Group Picks Movieguide® Founder Dr. Ted Baehr as One of the Top 40 People Committed to Faith, Freedom, Family
July 7, 2017
Hollywood, Calif. – The American Family Association (AFA), celebrating 40 years of successful ministry, has named family and child advocate Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide®: The Family Guide to Movies & Entertainment as one of the top 40 men and women committed to “Faith, freedom and family.”
“I am extremely honored and humbled,” Dr. Baehr said about the pick. “AFA is one of the world’s top advocacy groups and ministries fighting for faith and families, especially children.”
In a letter announcing the pick, AFA Journal Editor Randall Murphree wrote Dr. Baehr he was “among our 40 Faithful who represent the best of Christian and conservative activists in our midst. In our July-August issue, we will be saluting you with a brief look at what you have done to improve our nation.”
Since Movieguide began operations in 1985, the number of major movies with strong positive Christian content has gone from only one or two per year to 67 movies in 2016. Such movies are now earning more than $3.8 billion per year at the domestic box office alone, not including overseas box office and earnings through home video sales.
At the same time, there’s been a virtual explosion in positive, worthwhile movies marketed to families with children and grandchildren.
Author of “The Culture-Wise Family” and “How To Succeed in Hollywood (Without Losing Your Soul),” Dr. Baehr is chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission® (CFTVC) and its family guide to movies and entertainment, Movieguide® (www.movieguide.org).
Now in their 32nd year, CFTVC and Movieguide® are the largest, longest-running international, non-profit ministry dedicated to “redeeming the values of the entertainment industry by influencing industry executives and by informing and equipping the public about the influence of the entertainment media.”
Movieguide®’s Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala honors the best, most family-friendly movies and television programs honoring God and inspiring audiences with messages of faith, hope, goodness, justice, redemption, forgiveness, and true divine love. At the Awards, Dr. Baehr presents highlights from Movieguide®’s Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry, a comprehensive financial analysis of the movie business showing what kinds of movies and what kinds of movie content moviegoers favor the most with their hard-earned money.
