Study:  American Moviegoers Prefer Movies with Christian, Biblical Values

Date:  January 26, 2018

Hollywood, Calif. – A study of the major movies released last year in the United States shows American moviegoers prefer movies with very strong Christian, redemptive, moral content and values reflecting biblical principles or Judeo-Christian ethics, Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide®:  The Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment revealed today.

American moviegoers preferred movies with such content by nearly a 6-to-1 margin, $61.29 million to $10.49 million on average or per movie, Baehr revealed:

Content Elements Avg. B.O.
Very strong Christian, redemptive, moral, biblical content $61.29 million
Very strong Non-Christian, immoral or unbiblical content $10.49 million

Movieguide® analyzed the major movies released by Hollywood, including all movies making more than $750,000 at the box office in the United States and Canada.

Author of “The Culture-Wise Family” and “How To Succeed in Hollywood (Without Losing Your Soul),” Dr. Baehr is chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission® (CFTVC) and its family guide to movies and entertainment, Movieguide® (www.movieguide.org).
